I started fishing at the age of eleven.
Most of my days were on lakes going after gamefish.
I always really wanted to start catching steelhead, but there was no one to teach me the basics! The internet is not comparable to getting some real help on the water. It just helps so much more seeing it yourself then coming prepared next time.
A lot of my time was at erindale with little success. I caught a few from piers with jointed rapalas, but it was inconsistent. I would always drag my dad to rivers on weekends so I can fish, but I would leave disappointed.
This year was a big change. I started learning from experienced guys older than me. I got to see what works most of the time and what doesn`t. Slowly but surely my hookups increased to the point that i`m landing fish.
The spots I would fish were always away from other people, but sometimes someone who knows what they`re doing comes along.
Last time I got tired of being alone and decided to go into the crowds and was able to confidently bust a few in the spots I was failing at before. I felt like a real pro hooking salmon in the mouth while others were snagging them.
I think I`ve spent around 70 hours at the credit in the past 4 weeks hiking every bit of water looking for fish. It payed off.
Not everyone has a lot of time to fish so it is helpful to give people a place to start IMO. I would never want anyone to spend as much time on the water as I have just to have finally hook a few fish.
Soooo....I`m not going to leave
I chose trout because they are much easier on the eyes than chinooks.
