Anyone have any luck from the piers at Port Elgin?

Also, are there fishable rivers/streams that feed into the lakes? I may be bringing my waders with me this long weekend to try some float fishing (if we can find some decent places to wade).
Thanks,

Head over to the Saugeen River in Southampton. Its about a 10-15 min drive from Port Elgin and offers some great fishing opportunities.

Ok, thanks. I'll see if I can find spots on Google maps along the way. This is our 2nd time there, and didn't do so well from the pier last year. Lets hope there is more rain!

You'll have to check the regs to see if its open above the abutments yet or not. I have never fished above the abutments so I cant remember what time of year that section is closed. If you dont have waders you can check out all sorts of spots that are accessible without them however waders are a big help on the saugeen, you will be restricted without them.

The Saugeen is open all the way to Walkerton as far as I can tell for Salmon and Chrome until Dec 31. I hear some, but not many Salmon are in. A good rain would help but there is none in the forecast until possibly the long week-end.
The Saugeen is a great fishery for other fish too and has lots of great wadeable waters. I catch 4 lb plus Smallies every year up there. There's also some nice Pike, Musky, Walleye and on and on.

Alfie.

I was up in the Saugeen on Sunday, saw one chinny swim by, and some fella's in the middle of the river landed one, other than that, slow goin' for salmon still. Heading back there this weekend, hopefully.

Thanks Alfie. We have a look around and see. I have a feeling that there might be a few ppl there this weekend as well.

I live very close to the saugeen and havnt seene any salmon come in yet. This time of year you are probably best with old running shoes and swim trunks rather than waders. Just FYI.

No luck at all this weekend. We went to the pier/lighthouse around 3am..., tried different glow spoons - nothing.

Also tried Denny's dam Sunday morning with waders trying out a bit of float fishing for a few hours, no one caught anything.

C'mon rain!!! :)
