Proline Taxidermy did a wonderful job!

Help Support Ontario Fishing Forums:

1 month, but that was cuz I gave them the fish when they were just starting as orders were beginning to come in, so my fish was one of the first they did so it has priority, else it will take much longer. But, if ya got a fish you want to mount, bring it to them they'll tell you depending on their schedule.

Can you explain the process? Does the skin go over a mold? How can it be a precise duplicate of the actual fish? I know the skin is real but how does the actual body shape of the fish get made?

I actually don't know. They treat it with chemicals and then put a lot of coating over it so it doesn't wear down and degrade. I may be interested in taking a course in making these things for a hobby in the future so it's not so expensive lol.

They gave me their word that it was a skin mount though, cuz i didn't want a fiberglass mount from Bass Pro Shops, it feels fake as if anyone can buy one and have it made. But all the parts of the fish are still in my mount if I look into it's mouth I can see the gills and stuff.

Thats pretty sweet!! good job. That makes me worry, if that was $400, what is my bear going to cost when I start hunting... :???:

Thats cool bro, I have been thinking of doin something like that if I ever catch a hog.

But is it just me or does the colour look much darker then it would be naturally?

well it looks cool as poop.

Did you know you were going to do this after you caught it? If so did you do anything special to preserve it after you pulled it outta the water?

Nice mount - and scugog has some pigs thats forsure. I have 6 mounts myself 5 lb LM, 9 lb whitefish, 10 1/2 lb wally, 22 lb (43 inch) pike, 1 lb speck, and 2 lb brown (wife was with me our first fish). You bass looks incredible and very well done - hats off to proline taxidermy.

Plus colour is always different - they air brush as after the work is done and the filler has hardened the air brush work is a nice touch. The final touches are what sets a good taxidermist - artist from the rest. I have had all my mounts done at different shops due to varying reasons - price, closure or just acceptable work. If you look at skin mounts they scrape the skin out usually from the area they mount to wood or fixture you pick = plack - drift wood - grave bottom etc.... Some shops when you go in ask if you can see their other mounts in their varying stages of mount - most have shown me the process - good customer service. My brown was in fall golden spledor and I requested exact colour came back spring colours - the air brush work ruined the mount - lookin close to the mount you can see the true fall gold but ruined all the same. Plus skin mounts if not protected correctly they leak oil after 10-20 years and you have to get them redone. Haven't had this happen yet but had to repair some myself with clear nail polish - cheap and it worked.
