for the floar guys---when the waters get low in the rivers in summer do you still float fish with the pinner? i mean is this more of a fall and spring , in relation to the trout and steel run, kind of method or type of fishing?

I've thought about using the centerpin for river smallmouth bass, but have never tried. I figure I'd be unhooking chubs all day long. I've seen some guys carp fishing with a centerpin, but not drifting, more just for the fight.

You can fish it however you want tho.

I dont use as pin but in the summer I will float fish the same tribs I float fish in the chrome season, I wont use the long float rod as I find presentation doesnt really matter with smallies, they are just too aggressive and if they are in there they will hit! I will however use the same setup I use for steelhead and usually use live worms or 3' gulp minnows, Ive heard of guys using pins to catch ice out pike, im sure someone on the forum knows more about that than me as I dont pin fish lol

Dude... Some of the most fun you'll ever have. Even pinning for pike and large mouth is a riot.

Getting 5 pound bass on a pin is nothing short of exilerating, and the only thing I fly fish for is pike and bass, not too many creeks around here with resident bows and browns, tons of brookies though, but I'd rather toss a small spinner at them, or drift a worm

I change my 13'6 in for a 10ft in the summer and fish for resident browns, bows and specks. All the tribs up my way get the late spring run of smallies to. Many a time I have destroyed bass on the centerpin when everyone else is chucking lures for the smallies

gubass are in the tribs wen the water is a little warmer...?

Ive caught some big smallies before in the spring while fishing for steelhead. You can tell by the pic I wasnt expecting it at all haha

Edit: Why are all the pics I upload HUGE lol I usually am just downloading them off of FB and posting them here. They arent oversized on fb am i doing something wrong?

haha it was mid may I wasnt expecting it to be so hot that day. I hate only having thick neoprene waders, gotta invest in a "spring and fall" pair, I never use waders in the summer just old shoes and gym shorts

it's beautiful if you're targeting something and end up with something just as good at the end of your hook. I was fishing for chrome last year and got shooked really good by a decent brown which to me is just as good. i have an 8lb main and 6lb leader and i was hugging on dear life not to get my line snapped. thankfully the brown gave up before my line did.

I put down the pin once the trout run is over, and then start swinging flies like crazy....

i copletely plan on doing the same as all of this talk has filtered, with the help of grubman and eastershores, to me becoming a new fly fisherman---cant wait!!

Awesome, another converted to the fly.......lol. Schnip, I think you'll find Eastern a better teacher then me. I had to learn from videos from the library and reading books.....lol. We'll have to get out this weekend tho. Anywhere I don't care. Sunday is for Wilmot for sure.

your both great company not to mention i saw you swingin some nice casts bro--i will learn from you too---im ready to learn the thing they call swinging flies...lolo

and i hold you personally responsible along with eastern...for this new addiction i have--oh and that dude we saw that was on his knees stalking his fish like a darn tribal hunter....lol awesome

Yeah that guy was awesome. I just wanted to watch him cast after cast. He made me regret not bringing my camcorder. That's the other thing I wanted to do, go to a park, set my camcorder on a tripod and just start casting. This way I can see what mistakes I'm making. You could do this too now that you have that gopro..... ;)
