hey guys, question. people who tie their own rabbit strip leaches etc im having a hard time getting them as deep as i would like. i did weight them with lead. maybe not enough? or are you guys using sink tips, or both, or adding weighted eyes/heads to the front?
thanks!

Hey man:

Here are some tips...

Also (and you likely know this already) work slowly downstream...swinging to the upper portion of pools and then down...fast sink tip...be sure to cast to 2 or 10 o'clock mend downstream and watch that you line creates a belly so the hydraulic pressure carries the fly into the zone.

A start anyway...

thx chase both really good articles. now time to practice

Little counter-intuitive to have to mend toward the end of the swing...

But have to keep that pattern in the strike zone as long as possible...you won't really have to go to this approach until the really cold weather sets in, and you won't enjoy large numbers of fish BUT...there's nothing like a take on the swing--better than any other method in my books....

Yes the mend at the end is for sure tough especially where I was fishing sunday (fairly short swing). I just wanted to practice and see my new creations at work  , I had to goto gf's moms house on the weekend so I spent a few hours at a spot by her place, very crowded but I was stoked to practice with my new rod. I always fished 9 foot rods and now I have a 10 foot. I only got the 10 foot as I was reading many articles and its what "everyone was doing", now actually being out a few times makes more sense for mending in different situations. Thanks again man. I recommend the articles Chase tossed up, a very good read.

hova
I have found that less of certain material (marabou, rabbit strip)tied onto a hook the more resistant the fly will be to sinking ,thereby requiring cone heads or other weight.I find it easier overall ...casting ,rigging up... to tieon less material of this nature but still ensure that what is tied on has optimal movement.Rhea ,ostrich ,ringneck rump and select marabou do the job for me.

cheers

nice to swap info brother
...look into Rio sink tips 7-10' ,3.9 to 7 inches per second sink rate this ...gets all the junk (Leaders , tippets, and fly)down at a level plane ,important on the swing so that when under tension(the swing ) the fly doesn't rise up to the level of the leader or up towards the floating line.Wish I could tell ya it catches me a barrel full of fish ,but I'd be lyin.

ill check them for sure. yea i understand that this method doesn't catch the most amount of fish but in reality the concept is just the best imo. thanks again
