So I just spent three hours in the pouring rain watching a guy use a zig zag remote control boat as a powered trolling float. I have to say it was a huge laugh, and he did catch a couple of nice bass.
For 80 bucks and about an hours work customising it I am seriously thinking of getting one, anyone know if there are any local regs against using something like this as a motorised trolling float?

I been thinking of doing the same with one of my boats. I don't think there is anything in the regs against it. Lots of sites if you google rc boat fishing. But what if you get a really big fish and it pulls your boat under?.........lol. That would be expensive fish..............lol. As far as I know it's ok I heard one used his highly detailed RC tug boat and a fish did sink it.

The other problem is that you don't know if you're driving your boat into weeds and the boat can get the weeds in its prop. It does not take too much weeds. It's happened to me once at Ashbridges Bay. I had no choice but to wade up to my hips to get my boat back. I was not willing to lose $200. Wading out 40 ft and lots of floating weed I could not see from shore.

I think you'd have to mod the throttle, take the return spring off so the thrust will be all manual. I was thinking that just screw on one of those down rigger line release clips so that when a fish hits you pull hard and lets the line go free. Maybe I'll work on it over the winter for spring.........lol. If you get one and catch fish with it let me know...lol.

Good luck.

Lol there used to be a guy that fished off the Hammy pier and used an R/C boat to get his smelt bait way out onto the flats that nobody else could fish. Didn't catch any more fish than everybody else but it was cool to watch him play with his toy. Ofcourse he pissed off the rest of the anglers driving his boat over their baits and guys would take turns trying to sink his boat with 3oz sinkers if he was a little slow bringing the boat back, lulz.

Is it a sign of Canada that the first thing people think of when they think of something fun is that it must be breaking some regulation? Sad ain't it?
Only reg that applies is "Attended Rod", which is up to a huge variance of intepretations. If it's a line from boat to rod in your hand, fine. If it's just an R/C boat with it's own separate line, not so fine.

The guy I watched had what looked like a piece of coat hanger or something similar sticking up on the back of his boat with a rubber slip pich holdinh the line. It let go of the line pretty quick on a bite. He had the remote zip tied onto the butt of his rod, which did not look to comfortable to me, but I guess he has been doing this for a while. when I lived overseas, the locals used a kids balloon to float bait out over the reef....

Ha ha r you looking for an excuse to buy a rc boat so the wife don't kill you?............lol.... Wife's live to ruin your life.......haha. That's why I'll never marry

The only thing is once you have a fish on, the boat keeps going and going.......oh no out of range......lol Zip tied to rod butt? That's going to make it hard to fight any fish!!!! There's gotta be a better way then that!!! I seen on tv with the balloons. It can be done, I just won't drill holes in my boats..........lol

I think that might be what he had on the back of his boat.

If you really want to get crazy....check out kite fishing rigs!!

I got that beat....lol. Thousands of years ago in China, they trained Cormorants to catch the fish for them. To prevent the Cormorant from eating it the fishermen put a ring around the bird's neck. The birds can breath but can't swallow the fish. The bird is trained to fly back to the fisherman where he collects the catch. How's that for lazy. They just sat there with a bottle of beer and let the bird do all the work.............lol :D Not near as fun as having one on the line.
