A few cold nights is all it took to turn on the fall aggression. This evening's pike were hitting hard, and pulling like bass. I caught 3, but only landed 2 as the big one of the night was not within reach and I was without a net. I caught it off a high dock, in relatively clear water, and got to watch it come up and smash my spoon. It took several very hard runs. It was well over 5lbs but under 10lbs.

I was using a leader tonight, and without a leader I bet I would have caught even more. I put on the leader because I figured that I'd rather sacrifice getting the big #'s if it meant increasing my chances of hooking a big one. I didn't get any monsters but the 7 to 10 pounder was a beautiful specimen.

The first pike of the night, which I call my "stink pike" or "scent pike". Get some of its smelly slime on your lure, and suddenly your lure has a powerful attractant for bigger pike.

That's actually a very, very tiny pike! Fought like a smallmouth though, couldn't believe the pull and aerials. That's what colder water temps do to fishing though, make the fish more livelier than mid summer temps. Wish I had a pic of the third pike that I couldn't land. I tightened my drag and tried lifting it straight up and out of the water. Line snapped and now there's a ~7lb pike swimming around there with a little green decoration hanging out of the side of its mouth.

That's the treble that comes with the spoon. I change trebles on other dollar store spoons, but rarely these spoons. I have a bunch of spare trebles, and occasionally I will change these to my spare ones which are slightly larger, sharper and tougher. But the ones that come with these spoons are good.

Thanks for the information.

Big fan of pike fishing and you have a nice beauty. I find the smaller pikes fight a lot and the bigger ones, 10lb and up are lazy as @#!! LoL but still trophy size is trophy size. Good catch!
