Rice Lake 1/15/2010

I thought I would take a crack at some ice fishing on Friday morning with a neighbour of mine as the temperature was around 2 degrees C. Its been probably 15+ years since I last went and who wouldn't like ice fishing right outside their cottage?

When we got up to my cottage we noticed that the ice was not safe at all on my part of the lake and there was open water in some spots. Guess we need much colder temperatures. The ice does not look safe from Margarats Island and anywhere to the east up to and beyond Roseneath. The currents are stronger on that part of the lake.

No huts in sight as far as the eye could see in both directions. No one even on the ice either.

So dirk, you didn't even make it on the ice to try!?
I can't believe the ice is gone from your side of the lake.

Took a few steps out, but never drilled holes or attempted it. Hopefully try soon but they are saying we could be in for at least 2 weeks of milder temps.
