Went up to the cottage yesterday in the Roseneath area to spend a day outdoors with the dog and just be at one with nature for a few hours. Did some hiking around the area and was amazed at the conditon of the ice around my place.

Noticed a gap of a few feet just off shore and the ice didn't look safe at all.

Then after being there for a few minutes I heard some bubbling coming from the lake. It was amazing to hear that coming from various spots. The bubbling quickly turned into loud cracking noises and then you could hear a wave sound as either a huge cracked formed or a large section of ice gave way. I never witnessed than before and it was amazing to hear those sounds.

As you can see the ice along the south shore really isn't safe and I did not venture out at all.

Hard to see in the above pick, but south east of Bellmere Winds Golf Course there was actually one hut on the ice near the north shore. Seems the ice is better on the north shore then the south shore.

I was tempted to get in the canoe and use a bobber at the one big open spot.

Yea, the ice doesn't look too good there. I still can't believe you didn't make the effort to go out ice fishing though!
For sure, its not as fun as softwater, but then it still is fishing!

It looks good just to see Bellmere Winds again, even if it is covered in snow.
I am looking at getting into ice fishing this year (ask me about the $50 piece of dung St Croix rod I just returned) for the first time.
I guess if yo can't beat 'em, join'em kind of thing.
