The heat finally started to break, and I got a bonus day off after this past long weekend so on Tuesday I thought I would try my luck on Rice Lake again. So for this year its been my worst season. Ive been stuck in a .5 to 1.5lbs range. I always catch fish when I go to Rice, but I just couldnt find the big boys this year. Well that changed on Tuesday. Me and a buddy hit the water at 9am, and stayed till about 6pm. I think we got about 12 between us, nothing smaller then 1.5lbs which was awesome!

I got my personal record even tho my scale doesnt agree. My previous record was a 4lb smallie, this one came in at 3.5lbs which I still dont believe because it was such a large size and it did have a decent gut on it. Anyways it sucked up the bait without any bite, my line just started swimming away so I reeld in the slack and cranked her up and boom, it was on. I was really lucky too because my friend lost his rod so I let me borrow my spinning rod that I would normally be using, I used my baitcaster that had heavy braid on it, thought I could get a hog on a jig but just couldnt get anything to bite the whole jig, they just kept ripping the claws off the plastic rage claw!!! I thought let me just see if I could flip a wacky rig senko on this and next thing you know I got this guy trying to pull me overboard.

3 days later and Im still buzzing over it when I think about it! Gotta love fishing right!

**** For the record this guy torn my thumb to pieces, so I put the glove on hahahaha****

Beauty! I love Rice Lake, caught my PB largemouth there, and go every summer for bass and walleyes.

Great pic and awesome catches! Yeh Rice has been really tough for me this year as well. I'm going to get out one more time before the season ends with the cooler temps to try and erase the memory of this summer...

Great catch, rice has some big fish, hard to get them to bite sometimes due to the heavy fishing and boat traffic. Mid week fishing may have helped your cause.
