Well the title is actually a bit off! I did go to Rice Lake with my dad and uncle, but the target species was pure bass fishing. Turns out that carp will attack a very familiar bass bait... TUBES! We were hitting drop points for some big smallies and then the carp fiesta began  ! We hit a totally of 8 carp in 45 minutes, but the ones posted here are all the big ones that we pulled out. I guess the secret sauce my dad and I make for our bass baits triggered the carps senses and they went wild! Keep in mind when sizing these carp to my body, I am 6'2 and 279 lbs, so these bad boys had some nice size to them.

Those are some beautiful BIG CARP!

I'm glad you got into some action up there in Rice Lake!

As for not always getting the "Targeted Species"....

Well, the way I see it ... as long as you had some decent action (And with those REEL SPOOLERS, I can bet it was fun) then that's important.

I remember going down to Port Dalhousie many years ago with my brother. We were specifically wanting to hit into some Brown Trout.

Well, about every five minutes we had on BIG CHINNIES.

LOL

Seriously, must have hit into almost 50 of them between us! I couldnt even move my arms after about 4 hours.
We would only hit into a Brown in about 1-10. (and ended with 2 bows)

Trust me, there were no regrets.

To this day, me and Scott always talk about the Majic night down at Port D!

Thanks for the nice report!

Next time up at Rice (Give Diggy a shout) ... I'm almost positive he could give some pointers as too were those Bass are.

ps: My particular methods of CARP fishing are not ideal for the little kids downtown along the Harbourfront.

To much movement, too many high walls lol

All honestly I know plenty of bass spots, but this one particular day one of the spots just so happened to be a major haven for some beautiful carp! I actually know rice lake very well, from hastings to bewdely. Last year my brother and I fished rice almost every week 3-4 times and he landed a largemouth weighed in at 11 lbs 3 ounces. I will try to grab the photo for it, have it somewhere in my house.

I imagine the first carp you hooked with the jig must have given you quite a surprise when you first set on it. I know it has happened to me when I hooked one while fishing for other species.. I have caught the odd one like that but never as many as you did. That is really amazing.
You know as a carp angler I have learned that carp will certainly give you some surprises at times.
I have also learned that carp can take a while to recognize baits that we throw in as food. I guess the bass guys have thrown so many tubes in Rice Lake that the carp have now recognized then as food. :D Of course I am only kidding about that.
Thanks for the post.

Oh and I wonder if your dad's "secret sauce " has hot peppers in it. :) Maybe you guys have come up with the latest in carp attractors . You could market it in Europe and make a fortune. :D

We actually spoke about putting it out somewhere and see if we could by chance start to sell it! We may just hit local stores first. Thanks for the tip though! Also wondering if anyone was going to be fishing close to markham for some carp, I would love to meet up and learn some tips in person. I could also share some tips on bass fishing for large/small mouth bass. My brother and I are avid tournament fishermen so I am always up for a good conversation!

Rice lake is an amazing lake for bass fishing, I remember one time brother and I went up there to go for bass, we ended up hooking into a feast of perch and had one of the best meals I have ever had fishing! Shore lunches or dinners are always thee best! Rice lake is a haven for monster bass! I love fishing the sunken train track bridge there! Pulled some nice ones out of there! My profile pic is a smallie I pulled out of the Maitland up near Listowel! Great smallie fishing on the Maitland all over on it thats for sure, and have pulled some carp out of there this past summer as well! This is a smallie I also caught this past summer! I was surprised to what I had caught it on! I was fishing carp and it just smashed the corn! was an unreal experience!
