Hey guys thought i write a report on my fishing trip this saturday at rice lake, my friend & I had been planning this in accordance with the moon phase so saturday was 2 days before full moon which should of been when fish are active also friday night the weather was bad & to my knowledge fishing before & after a storm with the right moon phase should of been excellent. We got out on the lake around 7:30am i personally would of like to be on the water 5am because from my experience i believe prime time fishing are from 5am to 9am, we launched from north of settlers line on the west side of the lake & was heading to hiawatha when i saw so many bass boats heading north not sure if their was a tournament going on but am surprised no one wrote about it on here. So we started to fish for walleye outside hiawatha area my friend was trolling using rapala crank baits & i was using a mr twister white grub with a split shot the crank bait sinks 5ft with a 150ft of line not sure how deep they will swim we were in 12ft of water i believe the walleye stays close to the bottom, my friend caught the first fish it was a mud cat, i decided to change my jig setup since i wasn't getting no bite so i went with my mini slammer & pencil led weight setup which in the past never disappointed anyways we fished one area for an hour & nothing was biting so we decided to go into hiawatha for breakfast & fuel then we fished in a different area around & island where we saw a few boats fishing, my friend landed a blue gill immediately we trolled around the island & it was difficult to use the drop shot technique my line was always moving sideways & i couldn't give the slammer proper action, one of the boat next to us who were ancord caught a small bass & right after that the other boat caught a good size small mouth anyways we didn't stay there for long we decided to head in. After this fishing trip it is evident to me how difficult walleyes are to catch on rice, i strongly believe during the day their is only a short time frame to catch them it's either early in the morning or late in the evening, i am not saying that it's impossible to catch them at day but the chances are very slim. Even though we didn't catch any fish it was still great to fish with my good friend & i would like to thank him for the hospitality, hopefully next time we would have better luck. As for the moon phase & fish being more active right before & after a storm i believe that myth has be busted being not true, but i strongly believe prime time fishing are from 5am to 9am in the morning and from 6pm to 9pm in the evening. Hope you guys find this helpful

I was up at rice lake a couple weeks ago for our honeymoon and did catch a walleye. It was a random time (i'm thinking between 4 and 6pm), and I was just using a worm and dragging it on the bottom of the lake. It was an inch too small so we threw it back.

My husband caught a nice sized large mouth off the dock, and we ate him (that was our first night there).

Mainly we go for pan fish.

It's funny how myths or "wives-tails" can vary.

I was always under the impression that fishing while a cold front approaches is always good, however the fishing can get very tough once the cold front passes.

Either way, nice report. and nice fish! :D

thanks for the response guys & I apologize for handling the mud cat that way it's just that i didn't want to get injured from it's fin.
