hey guys thought i write a report about my weekend fishing on rice to clear up some of the critics, despite peer pressure from one of my friend not to fish rice because of the lake being to big & encouraging me to fish for salmon since he already found the honey whole. Anyways i was determine to find the fish at rice from my research on the forms i realize the area we were fishing previously wasn't as great as other parts so my friend & i decided to try the new spot we got on the water Friday evening about 5pm & tried different areas we were mainly fishing for walleye & other big fish in open deep water we didn't get any bites till about 9pm in some weeds & weed edged more in the middle of the lake it was walleye that was hitting. my friend who is alot more experience than me were have alot more results than me since he knows the feel of the walleye on the lure because they were not biting aggressively at all because we were missing something in our presentation that we forgot to bring anyways my friend had about 2 that gotaway from him right next to the boat i on the other hand got some hits but the lack of experience of setting the hook was bad. so we ended up leaving the lake around 3am no fish caught but most importantly we found a spot for the next day. Saturday we got back on the lake around 7pm & headed straight to the spot only to found part of our presentation setup that we didn't have the previous day fell off the boat while we were driving so we had to work with what we had the bite was slow till around 9:30pm my friend landed a walleye & just like that everything died down or am not sure if we drifted too far from the fish, my friend took a sleep & i brought the boat back to the location we caught the first one & anchor, i fished the spot till 5am with no results they either were just not biting or biting too softly for me to know & give them time to sallow it. My friend woke up & we started to drift nothing was hitting so i decided to ask if we could do some bass fishing & he agreed so we hit the shore line & right ways we got numerous hits which are the hits am use to comparing to the walleye hits which are so soft. within 10mins a sm bass hit my slammer i thought i was going to loose it, it fought really hard so i manged to land my first fish then my friend decide right away to head back to the walleye spot at this time it's like all the fish came out they were jumping everywhere my friend told me it was carp i doubted when people they said rice lake had alot of fish but after seeing this i have to agree. my friend landed a walleye right away & i went to net it & it got away we were getting hits i wasn't letting them have it i kept on pulling it out there mouth then we started trolling future away & headed in. this is my second year fishing rice for walleye & i believe walleye only hit for a short span of time & if you don't catch them within that short time frame ur just going to exhaust ur self for the rest of the day. I would like to thank my friend for inviting me on his boat & his hospitality & everything that i have learn from him about fishing for walleye & big fish. we didnt have alot of fish to show for on this trip but i believe the most difficult thing about fishing rice lake we have overcome we found two good spots for walleye & bass & am sure we will be very successful next time.

Great catches. Sorry I couldn't make it out. We have to get out in the fall when the bass are really active before the winter.

Great report. Better luck next time. I think you stayed at that spot for to long, if there is no action, move on and try a new spot.

Congrats on your catches!!

I just came back from fishing Rice Lake for a couple days hard. Found the day fishing very tough and water clarity poor. Otonabee River had some excellent largemouth cover but no luck. Trolling tough due to weed growth. Could not catch anything but panfish during the day. Evening was better.

North side of Tick Island produced some nice perch/one huge crappie.

Little Bay just north of Golden Beach Resort produced a number of largemouth right at dusk using jitterbug, it was super still though. Rose like crazy for 45min then cut off suddenly as soon as sun disappeared.

Worth it to travel to Bewdley side of lake for the Walleye, those have deepest parts in this shallow lake. A few slot limit walleyes caught there on worm harnesses at dusk.
