Hey everyone... So me and 2 buddies will be making our way to Ontario to fish the Rideau Lakes. We are staying at a lodge on Newboro lake but plan on fishing every lake we can within the Rideau Lakes. I have done my fair share of google searching and video watching and from what I read it looks like Big Rideau lake is our best bet for some good size smallies, largemouth and pike fishing. I was hoping someone had some info for me about any of these lakes. I will be trailering my bass tracker to the lodge so we have a good boat to fish from. From the videos i have seen and pages i have read, it looks like most of these lakes are fairly clear... can any one give me more details on the water clarity along with letting me know if these lakes are very weedy? I presume that being we are going into the fall transition that the larger lmb will be near shore. Any info is appreciated, thanks everyone!!

well ive never fished the rideau lakes but if the water is clear you would want to use fluro or mono leader if your running braid. as for lures for smallies, crayfish, gobies and bottom critters are their fav. for largemouth i would use spinnerbaits because of the flash and vibration, for pike try using med size cranks. for largies and pike look for structure like fallen trees and isolated rocks in the water and things like that. for smallies look for rocky drop offs. good luck

I've Fished & Stayed at Newboro Lake A Number of times, Many Moons Ago. It's a Nice Lake to Fish. All Specie are in there and it's pretty Clear. With some Weed Beds for the PIKE.

I've attached a MAP of Newboro and The Big Rideau. Think I'm SAFE doing this because it doesn't Apply to TROUT.

These are Good Maps for General Locations. I find that if I go with my Past Experience and see what looks like a good Bass Location. on goes the Hula Popper and we see what happens. If that doesn't work I try a Mister Twister with a Chartreuse 4" Twister Tail.

Pike? WEEDS! Favorite Lure is a Williams WABLER (Yes. That's the proper spelling, They also have a WOBBLER but that's a different type of Lure.) I have them in all sizes but the 3" or 4" is the most Productive for me. I also have a Glass Rattle Epoxied to the back of them all. The Red & White DarDevle is also a Good Pike Lure.

Good Luck on Your Trip!!

Stayed at Murphys Point PP this past summer which is right on Big Rideau. That place is a smallmouth factory!! VERY clear water so use flourocarbon. Lots of shoals especially towards Portland (you'll see the markers). I didn't get into any pike the whole time I was there. Be careful as there are two fish sanctuaries on the lake. You can also get into Adams lake and it is packed with largies! Have fun!
