Well, being as my fishing license expired at mid-night, I'm not fishing today. I have discovered that there is a marathon of River Monsters all day today on Discovery Channel. Just thought some of you might like to check some of it out. I'll have it on my last channel button all day today while watching some meaningless and some meaningful football games and recovering from last nights festivities.
Happy New Year all. May 2012 be the best fishing year for us all.

Alfie.

Its a good show I've been following it for a while now. Jeremy wade is quite a character, there was one episode where he was out somewhere in the mountains fishing for a month trying to get his beast. You could really tell the spartan accomodations he had by the fact that his shirt had more holes than swiss cheese. When he finally hooked one he jumped into the river and swam a set of rapids so he wouldnt lose it. Crazy man :)

Jeremy covers some interesting species of fish, but what do you think of his fishing skill?

Well......

I love the FACT that he really promotes: CATCH & RELEASE

I do find that he tends to USE larger than necassary hooks.

He is catching BIG FISH, but on some of the episodes, I think the reason he is having trouble with his Hook Ups, is because of this.

Now, not to be a "Hypocrite" *SMILES* I personally do not use #14-16 Hooks here in Ontario (Steelheading .... anything) my smallest is probably #10.

A 15 lbs steelie isnt a 100 "Tiger Fish".... but, when he's rigging up 2-3 GIANT TREBLES and a HUGE SINGLE hook (Combination).... kinda ridiculous to me.

Even when he was catching the BULL SHARKS he didnt use that type of set up.

What I do like about the show, is that you can have a FULL ONE HOUR EPISODE and show only 1-2 fish being caught.

I like the background info, the research .... the Getting Skunked.

Makes it real.

Agreed Blair, he does seem to overdo it with some of his gear.
I do like watching the show, it is very informative, interesting and entertaining.
I do question some of the stories and how real they are, and how much is made up by writers in a room somewhere. Some things seem kind of far fetched.
That being said, I will continue to watch the show.

I fish Channel Cats a lot, my biggest to date being a 12 lber. I really want to go to Spain now and fish the Ebro for the Wels Cat. I guess I'd better go buy my 6/49 ticket now :)

Alfie.
