Hi. I'm planning to move to the Bancroft area and have been checking places out. River looks inviting and I was wondering how the fly fishing is between Egan and Farm Chutes. I'm thinking about Brook Trout (probably towards middle of May) and was wondering if this is an okay place to check out in that regard. Thanks for any help you can lend me. Leaning towards retirement so fishing and photography will be high priorities during spring summer and fall. I hope to be tying flies during winter months. Cheers.

I've fished that particular river but never caught anything but bass - the Ontario record for rock bass comes from there at 3lbs. Lots of brookie lakes around.... My suggestion is to get a detailed map of the area you are looking to fish and cross reference it with the MNR Fish Online tool ( which is probably one of the most powerful tools out there ). Find a couple big lakes which have brookies in them and look for rivers to fish. You'll have to do a bit of leg work but the reward is worth it. Welcome to the forum Geoff - middle of May is black fly season... I CANT WAIT

Thanks Troutddicted. Will do as you suggest. Just one quick question. What gage shotgun do I need for the black flies?
