One thing that I have figure out is a) watch the successful fisherman and try to imitate them B) ask questions c) get out a practice. I am relatively new to this steelheading, and am still learning quite a bit. I have lots of experience fishing smaller trout in creeks and big rivers in the summer. Like the previous poster the size of bait is one variable that I have found is important. One other thing that I have realized, within the past couple weeks, especially in the bigger rivers is the size of my float. I usually used a 4-7 gram float, but on big waters where casting out far is essential, I have now switched to a 10-16 gram float.
