Im in need of a rod carrying case that will hold 4X 4-5' long pieces (2X 2-piece rods). Preferably with a shoulder strap, and under $50.

So far, the only one that I can find that fits the bill is this. Im not using it for a fly rod (1 spinning 1 baitcaster) so il just ignore the reel section.

Anyone knows other good rod cases? carrying rods by hand is a pain in the ass, especially when I carry 4 pieces.

Go to the building supply store and look for the tubing that is used for built-in vacuums, the dia. is about 2.5 inches. It is usually gray. Buy two end caps. Cut the tube to length, glue some foam inside one cap and glue to the tube. Glue some foam inside the other cap and place on the other end. Usually the caps are quite a snug fit, but you could use some tape if you need.

Sail has one that should fit 4.5 foot sections. It is designed to carry 2 rods. It's blue in colour, and I have one. It's well made, and has a fair bit of space inside and a divider to protect your reels. It also has a shoulder strap. It won't do a 5 foot section though. 4.5 max.

For the price of 20 you can get one at sail that has the reel cut out included in it. I used to have one for my spinning rod but packaged it out to some kijiji ad. I have also built my own and normally I am all for DIY but in this case unless you want to make a very elaborate carrying case I think the Sail case (I had the single green one) is your best bet.

For me, its great having a home made tube, I am able to strap it to my roof rack or on our camping trailer, the store bought ones do not have the structure or tiedown points that scream confidence like my 4" PVC pipe LOL

I have been thinking about cutting out a section of the pipe and riveting some kind of material in place to accomodate the reels. Re-tieing when your a weekender is such a drag.
