If a 7ft spincasting rod is rated for 10 to 20 pound test line, what is the downside of using lighter line say 6 to 8 pound?

I would think that the rod would not flex enough to prevent the thinner line from braking with a strong bite from a fish and would not be as sensitive as a rod with a lighter test rating.

What about using a lighter leader than what the rod is rated for? =S

The only thing that you can do to counter the stiffness in the rod is to leave the drag extra loose, and this will help some of the time but it is not fool proof.
