In the past two weeks I broke the tip of my float rod twice. The first time a 2.5" section and the second time an 8" section. I am wondering what the best option is for a repair, I see two options. 1 I take one of the guides off of the broken section and tie it on at the end of whats left of the top piece leaving me with a 12'4" rod or 2 I take that 2" tip section that broke off and use it to attach the 8" section back to the end of the rod. The second option seems more risky but it leaves me with a 13' rod that will have a bit more give which is preferable. I'm just not sure its worth the risk.

I don't think I can send it in for warranty, I bought it off kijiji over two years ago but I'll double check.

Nick I am in the process of choosing a black and components for a rod to build so I need this one to last a few more months.

If I tie the tip to the end it will stiffen up from a 4-8 to something more like an 8-12 I'm guessing so maybe ill keep it as a fall salmon rod once I get the new one built.

If you attempt to use the tip to reconnect the two sections it will likely snap at one of the ends of the inserted tip.

Thanks, that's what I was worried about. There was a guy who used to be on the forum, I think he was hawaiian or something. He said he has done those sort of repairs a lot of times without issue but he used graphite sections bigger then the rod as a sleeve rather than a smaller insert.

I had the same problem and tied another guide at the tip and since then have landed quite a few fish with it, no problem. Mine is a raven though.
My buddy uses an aluminum tube as the sleeve (2nd method) and it has worked for him too. In fact he has done it on several sections of the rod so I consider his rod being more aluminum than graphite :-lol

On a related note, where do you guys buy guides for float rods, specially the middle ones? What I sually find in the stores are heavy durty guides, larger diameter that what you see on float rods.

well problem solved. I was just getting ready to tie a guide to the tip of the broken section and I sat on what was left of the tip section and broke it in half.

Its a tough rod to get warantee'd since it was done as a private label product by Okuma for another company in the US. (I learn new things about this rod every day) Stopped in at Kingsway in Guelph Friday on my way out of town and they were the only shop that could take it in for me. Maybe it will be covered and if not I can pay a fee to have it replaced, i'm pretty happy with the service there.

Got my hands on a Rapala float rod that will keep me fishing during the transition.

It is a 4-8lb rod, why do you ask Garfield?

check this old post http://www.ontariofishingforums.com/forum/topic/13693-broken-rod/?hl=repair#entry215175

The tip cannot be fix, will just eventually break again. ............, but any other section can be fix, the action will never be the same, however, once fixed, more back bone will be created in that section, that section will be stronger than the original shaft.

Gander mountain sells long rod for $50 or under when they go on sale.
