Hello Everyone,

I have been with the forum for about a month now and forgot to say hello on the Welcome page... how rude my apologies.

Most of my fishing experience is from Brazil fishing at sea, but now that I am in Canada trying to pick up fishing again and oh boy! skill from back home not worth a dam thing in here.
Been reading quite a lot here and picking up lots of tips... many thanks.

My first fishing get a way was this summer went to lake nipissing for a night... got my first pike follow by a second and lots of bass, had a blast.

My first attempt for salmon went to Oshawa pier but unfortunately was not very successful.

I was there around 4:30 am this past Saturday

Went to bass pro shop got an affordable 8" rod with 12lb line, glow in the dark cleos (green/white, blue/white, orange/white), the flash and a J13 (orange)

Started with the cleos, but they did not glow for very long only, for one cast then had to flash again... not sure if it’s the cleos or the flash.
During the day continued with the cleos then switched to the J13 still nothing.

I could see some boats started getting some action around 10 am around 150 - 250 yards from the pier.
One of the boats came to pier around 11 am and said they ar there, but not close to the pier, he offered me a fish, but I said no thanks I would like to catch my own..lol

So I stayed until around 1 pm while everyone had left around 10 am... went home with no fish, but still a good day of fishing at the pier.
Besides getting fish the other reason for fishing is to relax, enjoy the scenery and not think about anything else.

Not sure if it’s the gear or the timing...

Some advice will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers and Fish on!

Welcome to the Board my Friend! (nice Intro)

Fishing Skills acquired in Brazil are exactly that - Skills.
They work the same here! lol

* However, Not to many of us fish in "thongs" (*SMILES* ... lol , I had too... those work best on the beaches of RIO)

Other than learning the habits and conditions of the Fishing here, sounds like your off to a good start.
Don't fret too much about the Pier Fishing, it really is a matter of TIMING!

The Salmon stage in schools, and it can be VERY FRUSTRATING when they are "just beyond our reach".
Sometimes you can be doing all the RIGHT THINGS and they are 100 yds away.

Somebody else shows up, and at that moment the fish decided to move closer to shore and they get "Lucky".
Happens to ALL of US!

If we get some MORE RAIN or IF the WINDS are BLOWING TOWARDS SHORE, then things should improve for everyone.

Keep at it!

Timing is more like it , you seem to have the gear for chucking lures . The salmon will be moving closer and closer as days go by and eventually into the rivers .
In my experiences it is sometimes better to fish the evening into the night , than the night into the dawn on piers . When the sun starts to set the temps drop and the fish begin to move in closer to the river mouths .
By dawn they are back in the deeper lake waters . Give it a try it might do the trick .
And no worries of not introducing yourself .... I didn't do that either ...

Many thanks...

Will give it shoot from the evening until night or after a rainny or windy day.

*Hey Blair to be honest the thong is what attract the fishes specially the shinny ones... too bad the cold weather here doesn't let me use that technique...lol

Is it a better way for the cleos to glow longer?

PS: if anyone is going up and would like someone to share the gas and company I am always interested.

Moonshine lures hold the glo charge longer and brighter, some guys prefer cleos because they are duller. There's nothing in the lake that glows like that except you're lure so the thinking is that the dull glow resembles the flash of a fleeing alewife. Some guys repaint their lures with a powder paint that holds the charge longer. Otherwise you have to just keep flashing them. I just keep a camera on me. I like perty pics of my lures lol

you're not really a rookie...more like you got drafted from a different league...like everybody said...timing.

I was there from 9 pm Friday till about 12:30 am sat, Lost a monster at the net and had two other hits without hookups..

So your timing wasn't to far off, but we were the only ones who got any action that night, only a few guys out

Im also New to the forum so i guess a welcome post is in order!
