So today at 7:00 pm i arrived at rouge river marsh. I went around asking people if they had caught anything but they were only catching bullheads, so i proceeded to unpack my equipment. i scouted out the main channel by the mouth and saw a whole bunch of baitfish breaking the surface... so i cast a live minnow under a slip bobber right in the middle of it all and within 30 seconds...BAMM i was on. once i got it to shore i unhooked it, and weighed it. it was tipping the scales at just over 5 pounds and just over 2.5 feet long. after that i tried taking a picture of the beauty until it went crazy and made me drop my phone into the water . the rest of the day went without any action. has anyone had any luck with pike fishing the rouge river marsh?

if you want to know why you don't have a long thread going on here ...read the regs of this forum--in short we don't /cant mention exact locations--hot fishing spots--when they are "on" --etc....

i think the Marsh is Zone 17 so that would make the pike closed until tomorrow. Go back there tomorrow and smash em legally and take some pics. I've never fished the Marsh there but its close to the lake so im sure the pike cruize through there. Bullheads can be fun on the ultra light tackle too.

i thought it is only for salmon and trout fishing? if i did something wrong im sorry.

Pike will open on saturday. Fishing with live minnows can pretty much make an MNR staff think you are targeting them. Just wait one more day and you can hit them like your life depend on it. And thanks for the spot.

zone 17 has pike open all year round. i did my homework and went. i seen some guy pulling in bullheads one after the other. it was crazy. i think he caught close to 15 bullheads till the time i left.

you did nothing wrong--usually it applies to salmon and trout only--which makes no sense--kinda like only treating on type of human with dignity

here are the rules and regulations for zone 17

I stand corrected. I had no idea they were open year round on any inland rivers or lakes around here.

Didn't know there were different types of humans!!!!!!!!!! Only 1 species, friend and they seem pretty similar.

If you remember the thread, you should know that it only applies to salmon and steelhead.

Please make note to remember this.

To me, it seems like the censoring of members and when people try to argue on behalf of uncensoring (is that a word?) members the threat of censoring all discussion of all species is given. I personally think members should have the right to post their fishing spot, should the wish come across them. But lets not side track this thread anymore.

The rule of naming spots only applies to steelhead and salmon. Please READ and UNDERSTAND the rules! If people are still confused then I give up.

Rant over.

Wow! That sounds like an awesome fish! Never caught a pike before, but hear spring is a good time. Too bad about dropping your phone in the drink, happened to me before. Lost lots of fish photos... What size minnow were you using? Thanks for sharing.

zone 17 pike is open all year, i just learned this recently and was surprised..

looking at the zone detail maps, it appears the area he was fishing is in fact in zone 16

OP, be careful, ministry are unforgiving when it comes to breaking the regs, even when its confusing like in this situation, they will still fine you for all they can (i know from experience, unfortunately)

Rouge river is zone 16 although it wasn't indicated which zone is the marsh. That's why I said its a close section. But hey I don't really know that's why I avoid "oooppsies"

I went back there today just to see what people were catching. in the time i was there i seen 4 bullheads 2 carps, and 3 pike ... which were all kept. it seems like the fishing is picking up.

kept the carp and bullhead eh? Ive heard the bullies are good eating, its tough to get past their slimy skin and rough appearance but I do want to give it a try sometime.
