Rouge River

Ontario Fishing Forums

Help Support Ontario Fishing Forums:

I think some folks are assuming that there are a very high number of non-registrered visitors each day to this site- and more specifically to this "salmon/steelhead" thread. It's slapped down all the time - "keeping locations secret, and PM instead of discussing publicly" This assumes there's a high number of randoms visiting the forum who are all with bad intentions.

If you notice, it's the exact same people commenting on each others threads.... every day... This is a good thing as that helps prove the only people who many now be standing next to each other at the Rouge (for example) would be all of us. I'd be curious for the moderators to shed some light on how many visitors (not signed in) come each day. I'll do my share and ask the dork who's crossing lines with me next time if he is off dial-up yet, knows how to access IE5 on his 386 and then, be smart enough to find the specifics of this site.

I'm in agreement, we should follow the rules of the forum by whoever sets them as we're lucky to have it at all to our benefit...
But - don't assume all snaggers or crappy fishermen are a)even smart enough to visit this site or B) understand how to find out our secret honey holes from the majority of our cryptic threads that are posted (CN rail, hwy 2, etc)

Cheers.

There's a pretty well-known story with a fella named Rapala Boy/Pedro who visited this and other forums seeking information fishing for salmon/trout. His idea of fishing for them is to stand next to the redds and lining them one after another. That's just the abridged version, but you get the point. He felt there was no harm and it was his prerogative to fish the way he wants. Needless to say, he got banned in all of the fishing forums for acting like that and refusing to accept what others who told him that it was wrong.

Because of that, I've been more careful with what I post here in the public forums.

To think that snaggers & poachers as not resourceful, that's really naive and i think you should re-evaluate how easy it is to gather information on the web. Case in point, since this is your first post (welcome aboard), how did you find out about this site?

There's no fool-proof way to prevent lurkers from finding out information on river systems, but posting info like this on a public forum doesn't help things at all and will only reduce the number of fish in the future.

Yeah Sight Fishing Was His Specialty

He Would Walk 15km Just To Catch One Fish And He Is Missing Out On Some Good Potential Spots To Fish In The Future.

BTW Im Not Sure How The MNR Would Work For Minors.... Might Explain Why He Can Fish The Way He Fishes

the rule shoud be don't mention the name of place where u go fishin period. I can see a decline of fishin reports for a few months now. I cought a fish here show a little background and boom 40 guys fishin that spot by 6 am. Even when u say a name of river/creek some places are very small that it dosn't take a rocket science to find where most fish are holding. Now that the opener is among us thank god we have more open water to work with, and less idiots to run into.

I Was Watching Some On Line Video Talking About How Digital Cameras Imprint GPS Coordinates When You Shoot The Photo. Might Explain Alot To Your 300 Spartans Ravaging Your Hole

haha i phone has that app u shoot the pic and it saves the location of where u cought your fish lolz

lol i would have to say, its nice to read how strongly people feel about fishing,
and im sure with opener around the corner, everyone is getting a lil itchy.. lol

lets just hope that the strong feelings make more people report and confront the people breaking the laws...

"if u see it happen, your just as guilty if u choose not to do anything..."

I have no problem with you helping another angler out, but if you brought up the idea of PM, why didn't you just PM him instead of posting it in the public forums? That's what I'm trying to get at. Instead of helping one specific angler out, you basically put up an OPEN sign on the river system. And the idea of fishing is just that...fishing. We get caught up with the fact that to be a successful angler, you must bring home fish. What about learning how to read the waters or using different bait or learning how to figure where the fish are holding? That famous phrase of, "Give a Man a Fish, Feed Him For a Day. Teach a Man to Fish, Feed Him For a Lifetime."

Since it seems obvious that you've fished at the river before, you should know how few sections of it you can fish and how small & fragile the system is. Like someone mentioned before, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the spots to fish.

I've only started river fishing since this past September and I've learned a lot and I'm still learning. But the important thing is learning to conserve what we have. I'm sure you've seen how humans are greedy. Take for example, the salmon runs. We've seen our share of salmon being snagged and butchered for their roe and the fish end up being dumped back into the waters. That to me, is not how fishing should be celebrated and that's what happens when you post things PUBLICLY in these forums. It's not just one person that sees it, THE ENTIRE PUBLIC. Do you see the difference here? All it could've taken from you, to help a fellow angler out, is to PM him.

I know you want to help a fellow angler out, but just be aware that there are those people who don't view conservation the same way as we do. Giving them that extra spot to fish, when viewed publicly, doesn't do the sport any good at all. They don't even have to sign up for an account to view this and they can invade and take.

I'm not trying to start a flame war, but I just want you to understand where I'm coming from.
I completely understand where your coming from. And the only reason i didnt pm him is cuz i didnt and still dont think what i posted was detailed enough to do any harm. There are many more posts and threads that are more specific and detailed than mine. With that being said, i like this forum, and dont come here to start any arguments, but to share my passion with you guys. So for that reason i did some slight editting. I dont think any lurkers are gunna be fishing the rouge anytime soon, lol. :D

^^ too late... i have no problem with people fishing it though, i mean its all suckers anyway lol.

Today I was fishing the rouge river. Just walking the river to find a few good pools to fish an caught two 3 pounders. Funny thing is, it's just 5 mins from my door. .
