Hi, i'm just wondering if the Rouge River have any trout running at the moment? I live in downtown now and i have never been there for trout before, only once for bass.
And just to confirm, I can only fish under the cn tracks at this time right?

Well I was down there yesterday with my two boys an I was wondering too. All I see is carp an snaged one by the tail. Lol. Boys still go to feel the fish. I was in Oshawa in the morning an got a small 2 lb steelie. My seven year olds first trout. Made our day

Yes the rouge is open south of the cnr tracks as well as highway 2 right now and no there are no trout running up it right now. Youll be lucky to catch a cold. In fact the only thing ive caught there is herpes. How your wondering? well lets just say i got carried away hugging trees and one of us forgot to use protection. So whatever you do dont fish the rouge, unles your into that kinda thing than go for it.

Your welcome,
Despotiko

According to forum rules above, I don't think it's appropriate to discuss specifics like this on the public forums. It's better to keep it to member PMs. Posting comments about it should receive more attention than it should is just asking for 50 people on the Rouge, which it can definitely not sustain.

hi sorry i'm new to the forum. If from what I said though, I think is ok? I just mentioned if there was any fish in the Rouge, and confirming if it is only fishable below the cn tracks. As long as I don't say something like under the bridge holds fish.

On another note, i did go out to the rouge to check it out yesterday, and had no luck. the water was extremely milky. (hope this is alright)

Yeah, you were ok in OP. I do agree that people should not mention specific spots, but I think you were ok in what you said. You asked if there were fish in the Rouge, and to make sure if you can only fish south of the CN tracks, which is ok.

really... c'om on now,, there was no location given other then the name of the river, and the boundries...
personaly i think evreyone should be posting every river they ever have and or will fish, that way we dont get 60 people shoulder to shoulder at the 4 or 5 places ever mentitioned on the fourms here.

and to add to the rule thingy, why would "the whirlpool" ever be a topic to talk about.....??? how more specific can ya get... "the whirlpool" gee i wounder where that is????
we have to realize that people come here for information on all types of things. like fishing spots. what to use, how to use it......

maybe we should just stop sharing everything, then all the fish will have nothing to worrie about, b/c no -one cares...

im just saying....

oh and if you do have a spot you like alot, and dont want people to fish there or go near there...
dont talk about it. dont post it. out of sight out of mind kind-a thingy....

Some of us are responsible anglers and there are others who don't care and want to just fish and keep as many hens as possible. How many hens are enough? There wasn't any problem with the OP's question, it was how it got answered. Just a simple, yes or no would suffice. But to say that there's fish and then question why it doesn't get fished more than it should is just asking for the lurkers and meat hunters for a free for all buffet. Despite not mention anything specific about Rouge, how many spots can you fish at Rouge anyways? It's either spot A, B, or C...not many choices and it's not hard to figure out where you can fish at Rouge during this time.

I don't know why you compare the Whirlpool with the Rouge, where one system of water is many times larger than the other and can sustain many more anglers. With this out in the open, don't be surprised to see the Rouge stripped dry and people complain why there aren't any fish there anymore.

Again, this topic of conversation should only reside in PMs or private forums–away from lurkers and meat hunters.

Yes the rouge is open north of the toronto zoo right now and maybe there are trout running up it right now. Bad place to fish if you time it right, probably going to get as much attention as it shouldnt.

the zoo keepers told me to put back the elephant because they are off season.

the rule shoud be don't mention the name of place where u go fishin period. I can see a decline of fishin reports for a few months now. I cought a fish here show a little background and boom 40 guys fishin that spot by 6 am. Even when u say a name of river/creek some places are very small that it dosn't take a rocket science to find where most fish are holding. Now that the opener is among us thank god we have more open water to work with, and less idiots to run into.

Probably Not. Part Of The Rouge Passes Through The Back Yards Of Home Owners And The ZOO(?)

Im Glad You Feel That Way About Me

By The Way I Was Going To Ask Bout This Other River But I Doubt I Will Ever Fish In It So Nevermind.

i understand where your all comeing from.
and i do agree, no names of anything should be used,
but, this is a fishing fourm. i personaly had no clue as where to go to fish for trout other then "my" spots,
now that i have joined and read alot, i know soo many more places now.

and yes i do have a licence,

maybe there should be some way of verifying that people have a fishing licence before join the fourms...??? or read in depth post about fishing and river names....?
i have no peoplem calling MNR with a list of licence ## to verify, to make sure readers have valid cards...

i still dont know many from reading this site.

but that proposal sounds like a lot of work and still doesnt guarantee anything. there are people with liscense that dont give a crap about rules and regulations.

could be wrong but it sounds about right.

First of all bud i didnt list any specific pools or sections or any specifics for that matter. I simply stated some information to help him out. Better he knows where hes allowed to fish than fish closed water dont you think? Everything i stated is just as readily available to him on the mnr regs sight. Secondly my personal opinions on a river are just that, my personal opinions for all you or anyone else knows im wrong. There are runs occuring in all rivers right now, that is quite obvious and for those that it is not obvious to, how many fish do you think theyll catch anyway to possibly do any damage. Thirdly i understand your concern as i share them as well but let the mods and admin be the judge of what is or is not a suitable answer. For all you know buddy here is just starting out and i think as a fisherman its my responsibility to help or steer others in the right direction. I respect the fact that people are interested in learning about fishing, most the guys that i see breaking rules are old timers that probably dont know what a forum is let alone would care to be reading them. Fishing is growing in popularity and that should be celebrated, for those that have a problem with it maybe you should consider another hobby. Its fine to be worried about how much information its posted on these forums, i am too, but sometimes i think people take it way out of hand. No offense or anything, but next time you have a problem with one of my posts go a head and pm me ill edit out anything that may be considered inappropriate, but not in this case.

Thanks,

Despotiko

I see..... This seems to be a very sensitive and much debated topic as I look at some other posts in this site.

In my opinion, I really think that fishing is a good time and positive. That is why, when someone ask me about some places to fish, I will readily tell them my favorite fishing places. I just believe that everyone should have fun fishing, and why not teach someone else to enjoy a good time?
However, I still respect that if the forum doesn't allow it, I will not post the specifics. I just wished that everyone is not so uptight about their spots, that would make such a better community of information for learning.

I have no problem with you helping another angler out, but if you brought up the idea of PM, why didn't you just PM him instead of posting it in the public forums? That's what I'm trying to get at. Instead of helping one specific angler out, you basically put up an OPEN sign on the river system. And the idea of fishing is just that...fishing. We get caught up with the fact that to be a successful angler, you must bring home fish. What about learning how to read the waters or using different bait or learning how to figure where the fish are holding? That famous phrase of, "Give a Man a Fish, Feed Him For a Day. Teach a Man to Fish, Feed Him For a Lifetime."

Since it seems obvious that you've fished at the river before, you should know how few sections of it you can fish and how small & fragile the system is. Like someone mentioned before, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the spots to fish.

I've only started river fishing since this past September and I've learned a lot and I'm still learning. But the important thing is learning to conserve what we have. I'm sure you've seen how humans are greedy. Take for example, the salmon runs. We've seen our share of salmon being snagged and butchered for their roe and the fish end up being dumped back into the waters. That to me, is not how fishing should be celebrated and that's what happens when you post things PUBLICLY in these forums. It's not just one person that sees it, THE ENTIRE PUBLIC. Do you see the difference here? All it could've taken from you, to help a fellow angler out, is to PM him.

I know you want to help a fellow angler out, but just be aware that there are those people who don't view conservation the same way as we do. Giving them that extra spot to fish, when viewed publicly, doesn't do the sport any good at all. They don't even have to sign up for an account to view this and they can invade and take.

I'm not trying to start a flame war, but I just want you to understand where I'm coming from.
