Hey guys wanted to know if anyone has tried or will be trying to salmon fish from piers on any of the western piers of Lake ontario? I'm a long time salmon/steelhead guy with a craving for some spoon chucking. I know it's been hot but lastlittlw bit has been raining and nights not been to hot. I was wondering if anyone is as crazy as me for some salmon action that they are gunna try or have tried already. Any info no names just yes or no would be great. Plus this year the spring for steelhead was early and was wondering if salmon would be the same. Thanks tight lines.

I have a feeling this years run will be odd. Early or late. Not quite sure. But correct me if I'm wrong the west Tribs usually get the runs later than the east ones

Has anyone here actually gone out and tried yet or seen anything? ive seen posts from last year saying an "east trib" was filled with salmon by this time.

I'm 4hours away so I can't just go early not knowing if there are fish close

Well on my home trib Paul 80% of the time the first major runs always seem to coincide with my son's b day. Sept 17.
Give or take a couple days.

Checked out a few spots on an east trib today and nothing. Should start seeing some action in a few weeks or if we get a good rain with a south wind.

Yes most years eastern tribs see fish first in my opinion. Few years ago I went with my dad and buddy we saw fish in an eastern river early/mid august. Western didn't get fish that year till September. I'll try a few wester piers once we get a good rain and a few cooler nights. I think it's gunna be early this year not much early but early just a hunch. We shall see tho looks like it's gunna start cooling down that with a nice Rian should get stuff moving.

tried so east tribs as well, carp, suckers, catfish. nothing else. at least nothing biting and the banks were lined. nothing upstream either, no traces, dead fish, etc

YEA SHOULDN'T BE TOO MANY IN THE RIVER YET BUT SOON I THINK. NEXT WEEK WE HAVE FEW DAYS OF RAIN AND SOME COOLER NIGHT. AND THE END OF THE WEEK IS GUNNA DROP DAYTIME HIGHS. SO SHOULD START SEEING FISH SOON

A few of my buddy's fished the mouth of an east trib some days a go. Landed a trout and lost two Salmon. I'm in no hurry , I'll wait for the migration up stream.

I'm out on Lake ontario every weekend. The end of June beginning of July I caught some Atlantics in the river and at the mouth. Surface Temps were 52°F-60°F. Caught alot of steelies and king's in real tight.

However over the last 2 weeks, surface Temps have jumped up to about 72°F at all 3 ports I fish. I have not caught anything I tight since the Temps have shot up. All fish that I have been marking are 200-300fow and close to the bottom. It will take some serious wind change and some real cool night before they come close again .

I'm not saying weather don't gotta change for fish to push in but in my opinion it don't take long to change. Few cool nights and daytime highs go lower abit and mix in some rain game on. Plus fish gotta come in sooner or later they gotta spawn eventually. We will see soon enough guys I still think sooner then later as long as the heat drops abit and like I said cooler nights and rain. But I have caught fish on the piers this early in the year and more then once so we see.

Won't be long for the full moon week and a half I think. The 18th is full moon so yea either way they gotta come. If we get a good drop of rain it will help

There's fish to be had off the piers even now. I know of a retired gentleman who lives on the beach strip and fishes at the drawbridge all summer long.
Nice rainbows and browns fishing roe bags off the bottom.

I was watching this stupid Robson Green extreme fishing show and some guy in the Philippines (maybe some other episode), seems to think the best fishing is had 4 days before the new moon. Maybe I'll try that out.
