Ahoy,
Managed to get out on Thursday, and for a pleasant surprise there was actually nobody at one of the spots near petro! I managed to land this guy with a egg fly in the mouth - had another one but unfortunately it was in his fin so I didn't bother snapping any pics. Put up a nice fight on my 8wt okuma guide select, 8lb tapered leader + 8lb fluro tippet - took about ten minutes to get him in (constantly hoping my tippet didn't snap off!).

I think the cold weather is starting to dissuade some people from coming out. There were still a bunch of guys around the 'main hole' but not many anywhere else.

There were also two 15/16yr old boys that came beside me and started fishing, so I look over and see the one kid is throwing a 5" spoon through this 6 foot wide pool. Seriously. I *kindly* pointed this out to him and he and his buddy moved along. Idiots..

Of course I didnt have my tape measure with me either so I can't enter the OFF contest, doh! Next fish I guess ;)

Have fun,

Nice fish. All the ones I seen are beat up and near dead. You could have just laid something like your forceps on the salmon as a gauge. Next time. Lots of fun on a fly. After catching my first earlier this year, my belly button was soar after for a few days.

Congrats.

nice fish thanks for posting and sharing, sounds like you had a good fight using your fly gear  .

Great Salmon (S) ...

Gotta be a blast on the FLY (I never have).

The 3rd-4th "Runs" of Salmon are Still coming in!

*They have turned darker (out in the lake)... but are definately FRESH RUNS.

________

I was out the other night (Thursday) for a few hours at one of the local GTA TRIBS, and hundreds of new ones were still moving their way up the tribs.
We are not talking "isolated" low water pools - 5 miles up stream, but some of the Regular holes that are only about 2 miles up from the mouth.

Hit into SEVERAL of them just using Big Stinky Roe bags.

Had the Light Set Up (6lb mono) and was continuing my targeting of CHROME and BROWNS, but on that night - just SALMON and More Salmon!

Here's a pic of a Hen (Loosey Goosey eggs and all - "Already have my Yearly Roe supply") and a Male who squirted all over me! lol

All were released after the photo's (Plus about a dozen more without photo and 1/2 dozen breakoffs)

*Could feel the line being "bumped" about every 3-4 seconds .... unfortunately no: "Tap Taps" from the Chrome or Browns.
Just the bumps and then HUGE SLAMS from the Chinnies.
