sault ste marie muskys

Hey guys I might be attending sault college in sault ste marie ontario in the fall for fish and wildlife conservation technician. I was wondering if there are any musky lakes up there from what ive heard its slim pickings... I'm not looking for your honey hole lake just some lakes in the area that actually have muskys. This most likely will have an impact on where I go to college because I cant stand to miss a musky season due to my location so any tips will go a very long way. P.m me if you dont want to post on here. Just remember musky enthusiasts we only have 4 more months to wait :roll:

Yeah unfortunately the nipp is at least a 4 hour drive from the soo I wouldnt be able to manage it on my college budget I need something more local that I could fish frequently. Thanks for the input tho it was a speedy reply

right in the St Mary's downtown...trollin off the hotel there, there's a marina too they're in spring and fall and occasionally they're caught off the fishing dock by guys downrigging or flatlining for salmon, ask around at western auto when you're up there, the St Mary's has every species there is in Ontario and I'm sure you're aware it is fishing Mecca

Thanks for the info bud i know some of the biggest muskies are annually caught in big trout waters so i bet there are some giants in the ste maries. One question tho would i need a us fishing licence as well as a canadian one if im fishing in the open water say close to the water border?

You can fish the Canadian side without straying into American waters and would only need an Ontario license. I do it every year for trout in the river.
As for Musky, I'm not positive but I feel pretty safe in saying that the North Channel of Lake Huron, also known as the Whalesback Channel should have a population of them. It holds Bass, Pike and Walleye so I'm sure the habitat is suitable for musky too. There are many islands and bays in the area. Of course this is where the St Marys River ends up after its journey from Lake Superior and as has already been stated, the St Marys has them. A google wouldn't hurt.

yes, if you're on the Canadian side you're ok...a Michigan licence would open up more water for you and you then have no worries of straying or from the DHS guys with the zodiac with the .50cal mount. There's also musky lakes in the Wawa area 2 hours north of the Soo, Nipigon is a 6 hour plus drive from the Soo but it's a pretty awesome river, Spanish River at Espanola is well known Muksie territory for a stop on the way up or back south, it flows to the North Channel, I've heard they're in Blind River too...now you guys got me thinkin of thumbin my way to the soo!

check out lake lauzon near blind river, I know they have muskie.. never fished there or for muskie though
