Hey guys went out today to Lake Scugog to see if there was any safe ice I could get out on. The first spot I checked was about 1km north of Star Bay. Ice was very spotty and I could see what appeared to be a couple open pockets of water right where my GPS points are. Decided to play it safe and head out from Goreski's Marina where my good buddy NPS Pro Ryan Crowley was reporting a good 4 to 5 inches of ice. Made my way out through the channel at Goreskis and out to about 11 1/2 FOW. Marked a bunch of fish on my flasher but could only get one 12 inch crappie to go. Found about 4 to 5 inches of ice with 3-4 being solid clear ice and the rest white ice. Lots of water on the ice also from all this rain so be careful venturing out because it could of opened up some old holes or soft spots. Make sure to spud your way out no matter where you are going, ice is uneven this time of year. With this cold snap coming it should lock the lake up tight. Hopefully we don't get any more rain. Good luck to those venturing out on the ice and be safe.
