Can someone let me know what knot I need to use if I want to tie a nymph or fly higher up on my leader line(as a secondary bait).

I use a loop knot on my first fly leaving a tag a couple inches longer then I want my dropper. I then use whatever knot I would normally use (improved clinch) on my dropper.

Because we, as fisherman, like options, an alternative is to tie a leader onto the hook (barb mashed of course) of the first fly for your dropper.

This may be a silly question by why mash the barb on the hook? I've used this rig a few times (not a big fan of the two hook setup tbh) and I always tie to the hook and leave the barb alone.

I will snell the first hook or fly and leave a length of line to tie on the second. I normally won't run something like a dual bead setup on skinny water.

I snell the first hook leaving about 16" tag. Then I tie on my other bait onto the tag end. Now here's the part that very few/n one else does. To keep from tangling or breaking from rubbing the hook point, I take another 5 inches of leader and tie it onto the hook shank, AROUND the dropper. So just before the hook starts to bend, I wrap the extra piece of leader around the hook and leader.
