My fishing buddy and I went for some fall bass in Balsam lake on Sept 29th. It is known to hold SM, LM, Muskie, and panfish of course! The driving from Toronto was about 2 hours in a weekday.

With a bit of overcast, it was 17 C mid-day with water temperature being 11 C. We started casting near the south west side of the lake where there was still plenty of weeds (Zone 1 on the map below). With small plastic worms, I caught a perch and that was it for 1 hour. No indication of any bass in the weeds. Then we started going near the tiny Greeny island (Zone 2). And with the first cast, I caught a SM on a green and red small cranckbait. Immediately after, my buddy hooked into a larger SM on a spinnerbait but lost it when pulling up. We circled around the island for another hour and my buddy caught another SM, the same size as the one I had caught. It seemed SM were concentrated in this shallow part of the lake with rocky bottom.

Then we moved to the north east, near the Hogg island and fished for another two hours but no luck. Overall, we did not had a luck with LM bass but it was a nice fall day on water.
