Went Ice Fishing This Weekend. A Buddy Of Mine And I Rented A Hut On The West Side Of Simcoe And It Can Go Both Way. The Best Part Was Fishing Was Almost None Stop But The Down Side It Can Get Very Boring + Small Little Perch Gobbling Up All Those Minows. Wasnt A Total Loss Though The Small Little Guys(5-7") had more meat than decent size(8-10") which where just long and skinny....???

I would say every 50 catch we would have caught a couple of jumbos.

Conditions:
-Cold
-10" of ice + 4" of compact snow
-fishing in 15' Of Water
-Weed Beds
-Buck Shots/Williams White Fish(micro)
-Jig Heads tipped with Perch Minows Suspended two-three feet off the bottom

Side Note:
The Little Guys Went After The Bigger Lures.
The Bigger Guys Went After Tiny Jig Heads tipped with small piece of minows
(Didnt have the guts to rip out perch eyes)

Have Fun and play it safe.

Nice report.
I have gone out to Cook's Bay a couple times and did OK for perch this season.
Now in search of bigger fish...but only seem to be able to catch cisco.

Same story as frozenfire ... perch are hitting but nothing huge. Can't get any trout or white fish ... only herring.

Same for me this year on cooks bay, Tons of smaller perch this year, In 2 trips only took home 20 perch out of well over 100 caught. Its still fun to catch em. I go out at Gilford on Gilford road.

Ive always wanted to go out to the deeper water on simcoe for some lakers and whitefish but don't have a clue where to go out and how far. Any suggestions?

sorry dude. im pretty fresh with the ice fishing.

havent ventured out to the deeper waters unless i had someone more experienced or a guide.

I was told that you just follow the track where the others are. If you plan on venturing else where make sure you spud along the way.

if anything i would let someone know where you are going and walk carefully. sorry i couldnt be any help but its not fair for me to give you any advice and having you end up on the front page news.

The first time out this year I went out from Gilford and rented a hut with Terry Goy. His son also has huts just north of there and will take you out deeper to 80 fow or so.
We rented the 'One Big Hut' and had a great time.
