Skamania is the breed of Steelhead /Rainbow that were stocked in the Saugeen River back in the '70's. I believe they originated in Washington State.
From my late teens to my early 20's I spent probably 30 week-ends a year fishing the Saugeen. Skamania are great fish to catch, they can fly !!! They are renowned for their fight and jumping ability.
Sorry I can't provide any pics. All mine were taken with an instamatic camera in the late 70's and early 80's and I do not possess the technology to get them on my computer.

Alfie.
P.S. let me know if you find some, I'd love to fish them again.

skamania stocking in the province of Ontario stopped in 2007. The fish did not reproduce naturally. All stocking of them now is done in the US.

yes thay are a summer run fish i have cot them at Denys dam long time ago also cot one in July in walkerton i was fishing for resident trout fun fish to catch thy fight like a tarpon spend more time in the air then in the watter :D

The Skamania is a fish developed by man to boost the sport fishing industry in the summer months. They ran in July, but could not produce naturally so the programm was scrapped. Some US clubs still stock them. Ever wonder what your license fees go for here in Ontario???

i would actually like to know where all our money goes? does any1 know a site that explains there expences??
caus if they dont, they definitley should have to explain and make it public!!!

Among other things, the money goes into catching people who fish without a license... ironic, but true.
And where does all that money go??? Certainly not back into fishing like it was supposed to. Do some reading. http://www.goingfishingtv.com/newsletter.view.asp?id=15

Our fishing licences are dirt cheap, costs quite a bit more to fish out west and I assume they pay more for their license in New York as well.

$29/yr NYS license. Not really all that bad considering all the stocking programs they have there. Here. there's fuggall stocking, fuggall enforcement.and fuggall care
