Hi,

What do you guys think about sliding reel seats? I have a sliding reel seat on my rod and my reel comes loose when i have a fish on my line... is there any quick fix for this?

I thought about it but i didnt want to mess up the cork especially i'm still in the process of trying to find that perfect spot for the reel so im sliding it around as I fish. Even the tape that basspro puts on the rods when you buy it ripped a piece of it off haha.

Sliding reel seat or do you mean sliding lock rings on the rod grip?

1. Dollarama used to have this tape that only sticks to itself. No adhesive. it's called Fusion Tape. I don't know who would have it now.
2. Heat shrink tubing, if you can get it large enough but you won't need much.
3. Electrical tape does not pull off too much of the cork. It does leave residue, you probably know that, but easy to remove with lighter fluid. I still use this, it's been holding my reel for over 6 years.
4. Not too good looking but use 2 cable ties and trip of flush with the head so won't cut hand.

Hope there is one you like and works for you. Good luck.

Two pieces of bicycle inner tube, one for each reel seat. Cut them long enough so they cover the rings with 1" covering the cork.
Will never move, doesn't mark cork, and you can easily shift the balance point if you put a different reel on. If you leave the top one extra long it even makes a warm grip.

MC GIVER!
(Friggin like to have you around in a "nuclear winter" .. )

D220 gave you the best method, especially if you keep changing reel positions. I use electrical tape ,I guess because I don't move my reel around. Use one of the methods given or expect to go fishing for your reel sooner or later.

Oh I think grubman is right. I seen it at dollarama. Much cheaper then home depot. It stays soft so you can rip it off any time with not residue.

Have you seen it recently? I been to 3 and never see it anymore. It's great stuff, my buddy uses it to seal pipes, grip handles.....etc. I bet Home Depot sells it for 10 times the price.

Once you have the proper balance point of the rod and reel I don't see why you need or want to change it. On my 8'6" rod the reel is not heavy enough to get the proper balance point of 1-2" in front of the reel. My only solution to this was to either buy the brass butt weights or in my case since I had some extra pipe solder, I wrapped it on the butt end and heat shrink to cover all the lead. Bingo, perfectly balanced. The outfit is heavier but atleast it is balanced rather than very tip heavy. Now it's more sensitive, detect more strikes.

Good point!
At lot of people overlook the importance of good BALANCE.

Very important reminder to all.
Thanks

Grubman..... I live beside one so the next time I go I will check it out. I soon need more. Lol. Send me pm where yur located an I can pick up extra rolls.

Beef is right about the cork. Most rods use high quality cork and the electrical tape if put on without stretching will not pull away from itself exposing adhesive. You don't want your reel falling off into the river!!

With your rod assembled, no lures, try and balance your outfit on your finger. The point where the rod is balanced should be just in front of the spool by 1 or 2 inches. If it is much farther forward then you'll need weights on the butt or you many have to move your reel forward.

Thanks Beef, Blair and Garfield.

Hey guys thanks for all the replies. I used self sticking tape to tape the seats onto the rod do it doesn't move. I added some lead weights taped together and covered it with a Turkey baster thing (I know it looks ugly but it works lol) now its pretty much balanced :)

Great. I never thought about the turkey baster bulb part. Very inventive. :D You'll notice the difference right away. Nice going.
