nice silver bar from the jailhouse. went 4/6 this one by far being the freshest, my best suck downs came back as air balls( the cold can do crazy things to normaly good reaction times) but as the day progressed and fish got pressured the strike became very subtle ( these are the fish i managed to twang) LOL. 5 guys snagging rainbows and keeping them.all big pretty hens.... was the only one taking fish legitimately, this DEFINATELY has to stop. ......WTF is with all these guys using neon green and orange mainline? do they realize it spooks fish if ran under the float or allowed to sink. i have tried siglon FF and in my opinion its not very good. the fish were on the bite today until buddy started running his yellow laserline through the drift with only a one foot leader. i snagged up his line and got him out of the water for a minute b/c he wasn't even making a full retrieve after his drift and wamo hit this nice hen right away and after a big coloured up buck, needles to say he LENGHTENED his leader from 1 ft to 2 ft and by the end of the day i had convinced him to run clear all the way down from the float..... alot of guys have nice gear but no common sense......and of course there is no substitute for experience. also fished upper rouge today without sucess of any kind.

slept in .. got there late didnt like the conditions and headed to wilmot, came back and fished the upper stretch i like still kinda dirty flow was a little fast another day or two and they will be settled in good. did you guys have any action?

Yup I did, caught the only fish of the day, a big 3 incher creek chub. It nailed my plastic egg, Garfield thinks it swam into it by accident. he's just jealous..........lol.

Just run a shot line above your leader and youre good to go with hi vis mainline. Nothing bad about being able to see your mainline, can keep track of how much slack line is out = better hook sets.

So you're saying that colored mainline spooks the fish? Even with a clear flourocarbon leader thats longer than 50cm? From your post I'm not sure if that's what your implying. Hopefully you told the snaggers off pretty well, I sure would've lol.

Put swivel above float and run a shot line underneath the swivel = problem solved.

colored main line does not spook fish. I have been using colored line for years and no problems hooking fish. I have a few buddies that don't even run shot lines yet they hook into fish constantly.

well this drifter was using siglon FF in bright yellow with a 16 inch leader no shot line.....same drift i was fishing and no fish.. i run ironsilk 10lb to the float nice drab geen colour is visible to you and other anglers but doesnt look like you are shooting a transit along the surface and everything under it is flouro and was getting bit stedily throughout the day. personally i dont even like to fish a pool when there is a guy running that stuff through it.

Same here, I use Raven Hi-Vis yellow and I really like it. IMO the mainline really doesn't affect the number of fish that you hook into. I think the color is also a matter of preference, if you like clear mono, use that. I now some guys that use neon orange mainline and swear by it.

Went 0/2 on Bronte. Had a nice one break off because I was too lazy to change my leader after a ton of snags. I was fishing this hole with two guys, they came to the hole after me and took up the whole bottom of the hole which sucked because thats where all the fish were but what can ya do. They were decent guys and good fishermen. I have never seen anyone land fish as fast as these guys were, I want to know what they were using for mainline/leader (wish I woulda asked). They would land a 6 or 7lb steelhead easily in less than a minute, talk about a quick landing!

The line quality plays a big role in fast landing. I have tried several leaders of same rating, differnt brands, and oh boy, are they different! I used 8 lb main and a good 4 lb leader and has been doing good in terms of quick landing.

How much spine your rod has will make a difference too, I saw the same thing happening when I was on the river last week. My fenwick legacy takes a lot longer to land the same fish than something with more spine and I may switch rods once the rust is off my skills. I also feel a lot more confident using a 4lb leader, I've not lost a bow due to a break off. (I have lost a few before I switched to better hooks and some on bad hooksets.)

Here's my 2 cents worth - Went to Bronte on Saturday and got skunked even though the water looked perfect. Another note of interest- isn't it interesting that we go to such light leaders and yet expect the fish not to see the hook?

Hooks can look like part of your bait, and also, with really finicky fish, I use 16's or even 18's. Red hooks can look like a chunk of skein.

If your so worried about buddy spooking fish with his line why are you standing 5 feet away from them? <_<

Is your sole purpose to piss people off on this site? Do you think you're superior for some beyond reasonable fishing status? All you seem to do is rip on people. Back off a little man. You're no better then anyone on this site. Just take it with a grain of salt or shut up.

I have lake fished for rainbows in shallow clear water and if they see you you will not catch them. The murkiness of river water is a big plus in not spooking the fish because you can't see them and they can't see you. And about the hook looking like a part of the bait, I'd have a hard time swallowing that.
