I used to carry a net, but now I do not. Just tire them out and pull them on the bank and let them go. Just one thing less to carry.

Likewise will start using a net, too much respect for the beautiful fish, never in my mind to keep one for whatever reason, 100% catch and release

nets are hard on the fish too as they remove scales as well as protective coatings, like hands they should be well moistened before touching the fish. I used to be into gill sweeping fish and if is done properly is not to bad either also i have found cradleing them by their belly works pretty well. Whatever method is used be respectful of the fishes well being if you intend on releasing it, i have seen many mishandled fish getting dropped on the rocks while trying to set up that perfect shot and for that reason i prefer to have control of the gill plate and ALWAYS support the wieght of the fish.
