My son wants to replace the bearings in his Helix to Abec7's. Any info on where we could get that done around Oshawa? I don't have a bearing press and wouldn't want to damage reel without proper tools.

x2 Jim at centerpinangling, he did a great job on a couple of ancient stantons for me a while back, made them both spin like tops again.
He is in scarborough. you can have him ship it to you or he has a pick up option.
Give him a call and talk to him personally, he will break it down for you

He just wants a better spin. Not saying it's a bad reel but it sure doesn't spin very freely with bearings provided. Thanks for the info guys.

Not sure if that home care store(not really sure how to describe it and dont know the name) is still by the midtown mall right on highway 2 going west...i used to count inventory for different stores and know that they can do bearings as well as any skateboard shop they should be able to do it free in a matter of seconds...also skateboard shops sell really high quality bearings you can get like abec 9 and abec 0

My issue is getting the bearings out, I know nothing of centrepin reels. May be simple in theory but when you have no knowledge it can be harmful.

if startup on the reel is good, i wouldn't worry about swapping them out. Don't let the "my cp spins for 10000hrs" get you.

Either way, solid suggestions above. Good luck!

It's not too bad but it certainly doesn't pull line out in a drift real good. No biggie I guess he just moves it along with his finger.

There is something wrong if he needs to move it by hand. Get it to centerpinangling right away.

Are the bearings greased? Tough question to answer sometimes but i've read if they are that they'd need to be broken in type of thing but i'd look at replacing the bearings with something better. The bearings in your reel are closed bearings and while you can remove the shield off them to clean them out, for your first time, i'd get someone to do it. I did it with my Islander and ended up screwing things them up and had to replace them - ordered a new ABEC 7s from boca bearings and put them in.

I had bought an Amundson CP and had the same issue and returned it quite quickly. You don't wan to be worrying about moving the CP yourself as, well, it defeats the purpose.

It doesn't require constant moving help just pulls you out of the sweet spot. My Matrix does the same just not as bad. Might just send them both in.lol

if theres no dirt in the bearings I would just leave it alone, some guys go the extreme and take the bearings out and clean them up with lighter fluid and then oil them up again with thin sewing oil, that usually does the job and gets it spin smoother.......

On my RawII, the bearings weren't pressed in so I would take them out. Remove the shields and spray them with brake clean. Add a drop of oil to both sides and put it all back together. Check around the spindle for grease. Also, try loosening the screw that holds the spool on backplate.
