Speed River.

A friend of mine sent me a text today that he saw a cool river ( the Speed ) as he crossed it on the 401. I'm not really sure why he never noticed it before as he drives truck for a living . I've noticed it hundreds of times Anyway he wants to go there and cast a line this week end. I'm guessing it contains much the same fish as the Grand, pike, bass and catfish. Has anyone fished the area that can tell me anything? Also I suspect the MTO or the OPP would probably frown on us parking on the side of the 401 to go wet a line for a few hours. If anyone can suggest an area where we can park and access the river I would appreciate it. You can send me a PM. Finally I was on a site for The Grand River Conservation Authority which says the Speed has brookies, browns and rainbows, would I be correct in assuming that that is much further upstream north of Guelph? Thanks for anything you guys can tell me.

correct on just about everything. i dont think i'm far off to say try cambridge and guelph areas where the speed winds in and out. bigger fish in the speed i find... but maybe its because i just suck at fishing the grand.

Thanks punkrocker. I have the same problem with the Grand at times. It is a very large river and even though you know the fish are there you have to be able to locate them. In a smaller river like the Speed it's easy to locate a pool and if you don't get bites move on to the next one. My buddy is anxious to try the Speed this week end near Cambridge or Waterloo. Can you tell me or PM me any specific spots we can hit up? Also are there any resident trout that far downstream? I've always been a trouter at heart.
