Speedy Sharp any good?

It's only $7 get it, try it and let us know if it's any good. If you don't like it take it back. Jees, bring in a dull hook, buy it, open it in your car, try to sharpen it. Not rocket science. Besides, in a year or two $rama will have a knock-off of it, then I'll get one.........lol.

I own 3 Diamond Hook sharpener, the shape of a blue pen, that I got from Princess auto for $7. Only ebay sells them now for $7, discontinued at Princess auto today.

Few of my novice angler friend still do not own a hook sharpener, so I want to recommend them something inexpensive.

I read reviews that they make dull knife sharp again, but we want to use this as a hook sharpener, more than anything else.

I know the owner of the CT store at Leslie and Shepherd, and also own my business. As business owner, I hope customer do not just blindly open a package to try and then return it eventually, knowing ahead of time the possibility that the product is not suitable for our personal usage, as already explained in some promotional videos on line that the item is useful for sharpening knives, scissors and other tools. Better to get a feedback from other anglers, if we can, before just opening, trying to use an item, with the mindset of returning them. Ethics plays into mind when making decision as well.

Screw ethics CT always gives me a hard time on returns. I bought their table saw and the motor was so unbalanced the whole think vibrated. It felt like the blade nut would come loose and the spinning blade would come flying off. Where is the ethics in selling a dangerous product? I'm a consumer if you can't or won't treat your customer properly then screw you go bankrupt for all I care. Most items in CT are made in China, possible with slave labour or people working 60 or more hours a week, as reported on CBC. So the markup is probably close to 90%. Just look at their flyers and you'll see 70% off this and that. Then you should be able to guess at the cost price of this, my guess would be $0.60 if even that much. A little plastic, some carbide dust particles glued to a base, that's it. They still make a profit when they reduce it by that much. No one stays in business selling at a loss, if you own a business you should know that. CT has and I've seen it, returned packages are repacked with tape or staples. Most items get tossed out but not all, just ask your friend.
If the product claims to do something and it fails to meet your needs thru deception then it should be returned. Not my problem they lied about the capabilities of their product, it's theirs. Flyer does not say it will do hooks, you have to take your chances or go get a proper hook sharpener.

Last year i bought the Hook sharpener (One recomended by Fishfight - and "Because he personally told me i should" lol)
Does the job...

However, because there are so many "Sales and Options" out there ... (Yes, I'm a bit lazy..... lol) I have mainly just used brand NEW HOOKS or REPLACED my Trebles on lures with NEW ONES as well.

Example: RIGHT NOW (@canadian tire) there are:

VMC PRO "SURE SHOT" - red trebles on SALE for $1.33 for a pack of 4 (Reg $6 plus) I bought 10 packages at that price!

- I picked up some Dachi #8 octopus hooks on sale (Another place)

- I also got some Mustad Ultra Point Trebles on sale

Point being: You can definately sharpen your own hooks and it is a great way of being frugal and taking care of one of the MOST IMPORTANT aspects of your fishing presentation. or .... if the "PRICE is RIGHT", you can pick up BRAND NEW and Excellent HOOKS at a good price and use them. I have choosen the later.

PS: "FISHFIGHT" has some of the best cost saving advice and idea's I have ever seen. Kudo's on his thiftness and methods of making things last longer, work better, or improve their usage.

I don't subscribe to that for a second. How many manufactures stretch the truth (quality, results, etc) of their products? If everything was as good as advertised you'd have next to no returns.

As a self-proclaimed expert at sharpening, I have a hard time swallowing his advertising. You tell me this isn't God's gift to man.

"Speedy Sharp Knife sharpener is the most universal sharpener ever made. It is fast, durable, compact, fits in your pocket, tackle box, or hunting pack. It is made of MICRO 100 Super Carbide and will never wear out.

The Speedy Sharp is the most effective sharpener you will ever use. Speedy Sharp will literally sharpen anything with an edge from knives to your lawn mower blade. Instructions on packaging."

The guy says it's good to sharpen hooks, so it's his problem if it doesn't work as advertised. There are far more bad products than there are bad customers.

A friend said yes, will do the job!

I tried it yesterday and said Not good for hooks!

Too bulky, cannot fit inside smaller hooks to sharpen three sides, took so long for larger hooks to get sharpen since it has to be at the right angler or it might make the hook even worse, however excellent for knives. really carve through those metals like laser. Surprise how the material grips really through metal with just slight touch.

Returned it back since I only want to used it on fishing hooks.

Went to ebay to check for Diamond hook sharpener, this is what I got from Princess auto but discontinued for a while. for $6 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-Scissors-Chisel-Shears-Fishing-Hook-Hunting-Fillet-Knife-Sharpener-Pen-Style-/380477166029?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item589634d1cd ebay Sold even higher price, How can ebay sells at higher price?

Another good deal ....5 sharpener for $5 , but have not tried it http://www.ebay.com/itm/5pcs-Diamond-Needle-File-Set-Sharpening-3X140mm-/190544802044?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c5d5af0fc Princess auto have this on stock .
