Anybody still use spin cast reels at all? My dad swears by them mostly because he used them all the time when he was a kid. I'm more of a spinning guy myself because they're more versatile and hold more line. I got this Daiwa reel the other day for free from a tackle shop, it's 15 years old but runs like new. Thought I get a rod for it and try it out.

If u get a higher end spincast they can be half decent, but agreed the kids ones and the cheap combos are total garbage. I gotta disagree on the casting part tho this daiwa actually casts pretty far.

Honestly they are big and bulky. and they give plenty of problems with the spool. you can spend good amounts of money on a high end one or just get yourself a nice spin reel!

Haha agree with you alwayscatching but for a spincast its not half bad, and when you get it for free you cant go wrong :D But ya id much rather use one of my spinning reels than this, but i thought id try out the daiwa just for fun

Believe it or not I sell a good amount of those for older generation fishermen aha. But I always get asked if they can have them serviced by us. PS I know you love your Fenwick rods. I picked up an HMX series light action for some walleye. Pulled in 14 smaller sized walleye and 2 around 4 lbs and one monster at 7 lbs. I love the rod for that one purpose of fishing having the sensitive tip to feel everything when jigging. I paired it up with a quantum PT smoke reel. Such a light handle and ease of use.

Thats awesome! I bet that 7 IBer but up an awesome fight! Im actually looking at getting a hmx or elite tech smallmouth medium light to replace the rod i use for smallmouth in rivers. I bet either one of those rods would be great for throwing tubes!

I haven't spent too much time playing with those elite techs but they are pricey! A buddy of mine has one and says its phenomenal. Maybe I will give it a shot later. I don't have too many 2 piece rods but Fenwick makes some great stuff. You may like the St.Croix Premier series one for tubes as well!

Ya I looked at an elite tech in store and it seemed pretty sweet, one of my buddies has a premier and he loves it so I might consider those as well

The Premiers are great! Love them. I got a sweet deal on a Tournament Legend Series St.Croix. It is like holding air and has an amazing bend to it.

So I ended up buying a St. Croix Triumph 2 piece 7' ML, it's gonna be great for tubes, and dropshotting!
ML is gonna be reaaaaally sensative. Do you fish rocks/weeds for your tubes/drop shot?

Honestly I like that you mentioned personal pref. A lot of people think they have to go by the book on what people advertise via fishing shows and ads. Obviously they have real recommendations like what I said. That comes from just trying all sorts of different rods/reels through fishing in derby's and smaller end tournaments.
