I have never oiled or greased any of my 14 reels, guess I've been lucky none of them seized up from lack of lubrication.

Has anyone regularly lubricated their reels and what did you use oil or grease. For greases I have a large tub of White Lithium and some silicone grease. For oils I have Zep, Fluid Film, Graphite Lube for bike chains..... and of course WD-40. I already have alot of choices so prefer not to buy anything special just for reels if there is such one. Can anyone recommend which one is best?

I found this from another forum, a guy called WD-40 and got this reply, "WD-40 should not be used on any kind of petroleum based fishing line for an extended period of time...WD-40 can cause small cracks in such plastic type material..."

Take your spool off before lube and wash your hands after when putting the spool back on your reel if you use WD-40.

Thanks to everyone who responds.

Hey,
For my bass fishing reels I use hot sauce by quantum for oil and grease. I usually oil/grease my baitcaster and spinning reels at the end of the season.

Oil bearings, grease gears

Hope that helps!

buy some sewing machine oil at walmart or craft store (~$5), remove the spool and add few drops on the spool shaft, hold it vertical so the oil goes down while you spin the handle, repeat it 3-4 times.

any of my 14 reels........

Do you count your reels the way they do Floors on Buildings? (Skipping 13)

*SMILES*

I clean my reel(s) as soon as I get home from using them. LOL

- I'd go with what Efka recommended and also use the White Lithium on the gears.
Sewing Machine Oil is Boss
