I will be heading up to Bancroft for some early fall Splake fishing, Any tips or suggestions how to locate these guys. Thanks in advance, FF.

They'll be shallow by now I think - I'm heading up just north of there this weekend ( hopefully ). Early morning and evening is best but you can get them throughout the day. Spoons, 3 inch stckbaits in perch even a simple worm hung under a float should do the trick. You in a canoe or boat?

My favourite fish... They will be roaming up shallow at nights as troutddicted stated, I would focus your efforts in the 15-30 foot of water. Look for plateauing rock with gravel (whether that be a point or hump), also the mouths of creeks can be very good ambush points for them. They are putting on the feed bag now trying to bulk for the fall spawn and winter monthes, my favourite lures being little cleos in the 1/3ounce size, vibrax spinners in size 2-3, we actually caught a fair number of them this spring on the rapala scatter raps however I dont think you will be able to get deep enough with those.

To be honest at the end of the day live minnows will generally catch you the most fish, this just requires finding the fish.

Points with drop offs are great spots during the day while they are holding position ( if they're not shallow yet ). Trolling is a great way of locating fish and once you do find them there will typically be more. Don't get discouraged... they can be very easy to catch but also can be the toughest - they've made me grind my teeth many times... be prepared to get skunked or catching them one after the other. A chartreuse, multiple blade worm harness is your friend for trolling. Have fun - they'll have some great colors on them right now

Thanks guys can't wait to get up there now and stir up that lake. Here's one we got through the ice last year ImageUploadedByTapatalk1410896306.914373.jpg
