I was at ashbridges bay going for pike...caught 2 saturday. I don't fish the boardwalk but right inside the marina. What i usually do is throw in a small spinner to see if there are perch in the area...you will know pike will be there somewhere. i saw them. started fishing for perch....then spotted a pike...change to plugs as i toss it...the pike took a turn and didn't see it. he was gone. as I was retrieving my plug...saw 2 trout (not sure if brown or rainbow) but the size was about 14 inch both. i don't have night crawlers and they seem not too interested with a plug. I changed to a black fury...nothing. they just swim back and forth chasing each other. i've thrown everything but not a single bite. here's the inventory of my offerings...plug, spinner, berkley pink worm, luhr jensen egg, storm crankbait and spoons of all kind. what i didn't use that i should've, lindy pink jig. i don't have live crawlers which i would've tried as well. good sign for the area though.

I gotta try ashbridges sometime, ive been hearing about it quite a bit. I had a simular thing happen to me today except they were pike. I seen a few just hangin out in a shallow spot. I tossed everything I brought and nothing. Do you scent your plugs?

Pike I have no problem catching. If they don't go after your lure, it's either they just swallowed a perch or any fish. I caught a pike last thursday with a fish tail on it's teeth. And i spotted another pike basking on very shallow water...no weed and was busy with his food. Once he was done. he went after my lure. Pike are greedy...trout not so much. very picky.

as for me no. I keep that stuff away from my tackle. I dont even spray my hands. I double up on latex gloves to keep my hands clean for handling my lures

i think pike relies on movement. scent not so much...i have a lure soaked in pike blood after catching one and still caught a few more...but then again they're known to eat their own.
