Hello to everyone, I'm new to the forum.

Question about Spring fishing for panfish, when do you guys typically start to fish for crappie, blue gill, sun fish etc.?

I tried APR 11th of this year at Rice Lake just to get my line wet and catch a few panfish and ended up with nothing.

Did I try to early? lol....

Thanks in advance.

I'm going for panfish this Sunday. Tired of getting skunked on steelhead.. Lol. You gotta slow down in the colder water. Small hair jigs, flies and plastics fished under a float work well.

AHHH okay, so they are there, I just didn't give the right presentation.

Thanks for the tips Chrome!

I go out for panfish as soon as conditions are safe for me to do so. But, as the previous reply has stated, you need to have a slow, light presentation. I find fishing a slip bobber with a red worm extremely effective on rice. Also I try to find areas where there are streams feeding into the lake, that's usually where i find the most success.
