I have been a St Croix guy through and through (not sure why really, I just got on their band waggon and ended up owning four their rods. So when I was looking to get into ice fishing it only makes sense that I would stay the course.
Mistake!
I purchased one of their expensive ($50 rod only) Legend ice rods. It lasted a day before the guide fell off completely. It looked like it had never been glued. St. Croix for their part offered to waive return shipping charges and offered me advice on how to glue the guide back on for myself! Good for 50 bucks eh?
I have since talked to a couple of other people that I know that have owned their ice rods, only to have them break rather easily.
I was disappointed that a company that I had invested in (by buying four spinning rods in the past) would turn out an inferior product, and apparently not be concerned enough about it to return emails on the subject.

That is unusual. They must have a real problem with those...
I haven't been ice fishing for years, but I used to use a stick and a spool of line. Worked fine, and if it broke, just went back to the manufacturer and got a replacement... free!
:)

Heard Alot Of People Complaining About Those Ice Rods. I Myself Was Going To Buy A Few But After Testing Out The BassPro Ice Rods(Broke Three/Four Of Them On The SPOTand where all inconsistance breaks) was going to test out the st.croix but after slightly bending the rod i realized it was going to be the same problem. Good advertisement though with the free st.croix hat.

Sorry to hear about the rod breaking. I've purchased 2 St. Croix Premier Ice rods and seem to be fine with them. They were 25 per rod. With all the rods that they have made, perhaps it was one the few that turned into lemons. I hope that the St. Croix customer service can help resolve your situation.
