Well if your new to fishing id suggest sticking to leeches and worms off the bottom and below a float. Since you are out on the water you could also try #3 spinners, texas rigged chigger craws, wacky rigged senko’s, spinnerbaits, husky jerks and one of my personal favorites the crawfish imitation by live target.
If any of this sounds foreign you can just go to a fishing store and they will know exactly what I am talking about.
