Thank you.

Steelie for sure.

Also, nice work blurring out the background. I hate when guys show the spots in their pics!

Thanks I'm glad it is not Atlantic because i brought it home.
I don't want to be a poacher.
I was not sure because this fish was very long and had forked fin. I had steel heads before but this one was a bit different.
Thank you guys.

Luckily it's a bow, you can't legally fish for atlantics, and definatley can't keep them.

Yes you can if it was caught in zone 20 and greater than 63 cm, limit one but i,m just making sure. because i would feel really bad that i got Atlantic i wold release it in zone 20.
My brother was 100% sure it was a BOW so i took it home :)

cot this one few months ago casting spoons in the lake fast pick and back in the drink  this is a bow right lol jokes

TRIBS:
ZONE16 & 17 BOTH:

Atlantic Salmon*

Closed all year

OUT ON THE LAKE:

Q: What are the current (2011) and futureregulations for Atlantic Salmon in Lake Ontario and its tributaries?

A: With a 2011 Ontario Sport version fishing licence, one AtlanticSalmon with a minimum length of 63cm (24.8in.) is permitted from Lake Ontario. This counts toward the overall combined limit of five salmon and trout fromLake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. The season on Lake Ontario is open allyear, although the tributaries are closed year round to fishing for AtlanticSalmon. With a 2011 Conservation version fishing licence, the catch andpossession of Atlantic Salmon is prohibitedin the lake.

The Lake Ontario Atlantic Salmon Recovery Team will be settingbenchmarks for the future management of stream fisheries and harvest.

AggregateLimits for Trout and Salmon – In addition, throughout theprovince there are standard aggregate limits for all species of trout andsalmon in combination. You may only catch and keep in one day or possess nomore than five trout and salmon in total under a Sport Fishing Licence (S – 5) or two trout and salmon intotal under a Conservation Fishing Licence (C – 2). NOTE: In addition to the aggregatelimit, you may not exceed individual species limits where they are otherwisestated (e.g., the Slimitfor Atlantic salmon is one and you may not catch and keep or possess more thanone Atlantic salmon at any time).

OpenSeasons – Fishing season opening and closing dates varydepending on the species and the area. Dates are inclusive; all dates includingthe first and last dates stated in the summary are open or closed. It is illegal to attempt to catch fish for which theseason is closed, even if you are going to release them. Fish accidentally caught duringthe closed season must be immediately released back to the water. Unless statedotherwise, species that are not listed (such as sucker and rock bass) have ayear-round open season.

ummm Blair, do you mind sharing where you gleaned that information from?
2012 regulations still have Atlantics as CLOSED SEASON.

also to the OP, regardless of whether you can retain one or not.
should you really be keeping a fish if you don't know what species it is?

Zone 20 is open all year
If you have regulations for 2012 you will see it as last zone.

Firstly, I never said you could KEEP or TARGET THEM.

No worries

And the info regarding the LAKE ONTARIO REGS comes directly off the BRING BACK THE ATLANTIC SALMON site.

It is endorsed by the government, it's sponsors and the MNR, and other REPUTABLE groups.

Doesnt mean it's CORRECT! (perfect world) but I figure it is.

I could not find any other info.

I CLEARLY STATED the REGS from the MNR: CLOSED SEASON!

ps: You should always READ the REGS, and then PHONE the MNR DIRECTLY when in doubt.

Hope that helps!

lol gotcha buddy, wasn't calling you out or anything just had never seen that particular stipulation about keeping a grilse.
;)

NO WORRIES, and my apologies...
I certainly can admit to being a bit defensive there.

Again sorry!

It's SALMONOID INSANITY SEASON (no excuses) but with RATIONAL/IRRATIONAL TALK about:

Brings out the GOOD and BAD

no harm meant

For a POINT of CONVERSATION:

Considering they are stocking the ATLANTICS in the CREDIT and DUFFINS (good example of well known fished tribs) ...
Then what is the protocal here?

(Other than immediate catch and release!)

What I mean is this:

Anyone who could legitimately explain to me a technique to "Avoid" catching an ATLANTIC when fishing for: Chinnies, Brooks, Browns, Bows etc..
DESERVES a phd in icothology and Regulation Interpretation.

IF the reasoning to ENTIRELY STOP FISHING because there may be an ATLANTIC caught, then do they CLOSE the FISHERY?

Just looking for opinions....

My thoughts are that I would continue doing what I have been doing for 40+ years (While targeting Trout in the Tribs, under the current regs-techniques, baits) , and release the fish if caught.
* This spring at DUFFINS - the "Fingelings" were hitting: Small roe bags, worms, spinners ... flies , and I was certainly not STOPPING FISHING the trib. Neither were the OTHER 500+ guys...
