Was just in the Great Smoky mountains and was looking for some quick fishing action but without needing a licence. Discovered a place up in the hills, just down from a cave with a beautiful creek running through it.

Found a place. The pond was literally no bigger than a backyard pond as you can see from this pic.

Look closely and you can see the fish. When I went there were even more. Highly concentrated. I paid the 5 bucks to fish and $4.50/lb for each fish. I donated the fish after keeping it since I had just ate lunch and I was on the road so didn't wanna stick around for them to prepare the meal.

It is impossible to not catch a fish in this place. If I lived close by and had a freezer to keep them in I could have fished there all day. All the fish were between 1 lb and 2.5 lbs.

So here's my question. I've fished twice at Glen Haffey and once at some place outside Hamilton and didn't catch. Neither did my friends or anyone else that was there within view, except one guy. Though my cousin went to Byrd's in Stouffville once and dominated.

Why aren't there places here like this one? Small ponds with high concentration of fish. Also, why aren't there any bass ponds for pay to fish and keep? I've always been curious about this.

ps. Had to use a gripper because he kept squirming out of my hands.

there all places like that all over, not usually that small but the same idea. Just do a google search and find them if thats your thing.

Being in Hamilton you have alot of great fishing opportunities close by. Any major river will hold steelhead in the next little while, put in some time and you will find it is much more enjoyable.

Ya, this takes any challenge out of fishing. It's the kind of place I'd go maybe a couple of times a year if I lived close by. It's a great place for a noob though.

There are a few of these places in the Great Smokys and all highly productive from what I read. And creek fishing in this mountain range is a big thing too. Read lots of reports about good fishing. They actually require you to have a trout licence on top of a fishing licence.

Anyway, I'm a bass and pike guy so I don't chase too much chrome but it was definitely fun for those couple of minutes.

I don't have problems with pay-to-fish...it's the keep-your-catch...that's where they will get you with top $$$.

Usually when I think of stocked speckled trout lakes up this way I think of a semi wild pop but I've lived in Toronto before and if private ponds stocked with rainbow trout are all you have roll with it...

Glen Haffy you only pay to fish. No fee to keep fish. I think there's a limit of 6, however. Not my favourite type of fishing, but good to take the kiddies/ beginners for some guaranteed action, or just to practice technique.

There's a good fish farm just north of Durham with 4or 5 ponds !! Browns bows specks and bass ... I don't know the hrs or cost though
