One thing that I have noticed is when people cast their centrepins, there is no right or wrong finger to stop the pin from spinning because I have seen every finger used to do this. So my questions is what finger do you use to stop the spin and is there any particular reason other than comfort for using that finger?

LOL! i couldnt even tell you what finger i use. in cold weather i wear down my index then change to pinky and some time change hands from casting to drifting. walking slow long drifts saves your hands too.

I use my little finger on my right hand and it's got one honkin' callus on it too .
My other friends tend to use their middle and index fingers , kind of like cupping their hand over the side of the reel .
I think I got my little finger involved because of the way I used my spinning reel for float drifting before using my centrepin , I just find it more comfortable .

back in my spinning days i would backreel line out still have my old 10'6'' now relegated to bottom bouncing and pier casting duties.

I use my thumb, middle and 4th finger usually. It is amazing how many different ways there are of holding even the pin and rod in your hand. From what I understand some people don't want to use their middle finger, but rather save that for driving.
