Stradic can't decide.

Hi, I need help on what reel to get. I'm looking at the shimano stradic ci4 , but can't decide if I should go for 3000 or 4000 model. I'll be using it for pike, rainbow trouts and salmon. Thanks

3000 should be fine. Is it for pier fishing? The only reason you would want to go to the 4000 is if you like to use a heavier mono line. Im pretty sure the 3000 would have enough capacity for 12lb mono pier fishing.

I had the Stradic Ci4 3000 for about a month. Can't say I was overly impressed with it, at least not for the 200+ price tag.

I ended up returning it and trying the Quantum Smoke PTi. I've had the Smoke for about 2 months now. 50 bucks less, also extremely light, and over-all the action feels just as good if not better than the Stradic Ci4.

I love how the CI4 looks, but maybe consider the Stradic FJ - it's got the aluminum body and newer tech (x-ship)...3000 (or even the 2500) size be enough for what youre planning.

Can't go wrong with a stradic....pick the lighter one....man you could drag a freaking yellow fin tuna with the drag set to "medium" only.
I also have to say that there are cheaper options out there.....same or better quality

Ci4 is just a flashy composite model... The only thing you are paying for is the carbon fiber, other than that it is a fairly standard reel.

Need the X-Ship in the FJ. Its a workhorse.

Thanks guys, went to basspro today and decided to get the ci43000 and my wife got the fj. The fj feels more solid imo, So will try both of them.

You can aslo check to see it the 2500 CI4 spool will fit the 3000 CI4 body. I know the FI models were compatible. Example the same body just diff spool.

I have both the CI2500(X2) and the 2500FJ the FJ is the smoother reel. Buit the CI is my fav.

Went out this morning to port darlington, the drag on the ci4 is really smooth. Was really windy, not a lot of people and pretty much got the whole place to myself. Was using the jointed rapala, didn't cast far due to the wind pushing back the lure. Switch to rapala crackin rap, little heavier lure and right away I got a bite. Was surprise how smooth the drag is on the ci4 . Right after that got another smaller female on the same lure, around 30 minutes after got another bite, but got away. Check my lure and one of the hook was broken off. Around 10 am, the wind and waves was too strong so just packed up and went home. I really liked the ci4 so far very smooth and light reel, but didn't get a chance to try the fj yet. Maybe next week

Hi Adm, I think you made a good choice. I have had my 3000 for a few years and I have enjoyed it alot for all those species you mentioned.
