It's totally possible to get 8+ in one day. And not just on opener. But the trick is to go through as many pools as you can, and not stick to one or two. I've seen guys fish the same pool for hours and barely manage even one.

sounds like you have a good idea what is going on. If you are looking for things to change to try... try a bit longer leader. I am for 2 feet. And I get shot right to about a foot of my presentation. dont be afraid to put shot on the leader. You can try a smaller hook. I use 12s on murky and 14s on clear days. 10 isn't anything out of line though.

another thing that caught my eye... i only group my shot after the float. Like you said. 2 shots. then i never have 2 together. Spaced out ever 8-10inches give or take depending on depth and run speed. Try spreading them out.

the last thing is your presentation. just beads? Switch it up. you never know what they are after. bags, different color bags, single eggs, beads, worms grubs pinkies flies you name it. Also the striking zone, dont be afraid to be sliding your float up until you find bottom.

hope this helps, a few things to try out anyways.

cheers man good luck
Very good point! Little difference on setup could make big difference on how much you hooked.

you need to tell us details which dozer listed.

and what everyone else says. To have an 8/25 day.... first of all, if you are landing 8 fish a day, you know exactly what you are doing and you dont lose 10-15. Also, these kind of numbers only truly come up on opener weekend IMHO.

I have had days were i land 8 and lose 20+, all depends on the conditions and how the fish are fighting that day. Striking short leading to bad hookups, or jumping more then usual, ultra fast flow can all lead to a high % of lost fish.

If I'm fishing in fast flowing water, i wouldn't dare put a hook smaller then 8 on, if your loosing more then your landing on a hot action day, put a size 4 or 6 on and you will land alot more fish.

I can count the number of times on one hand Ive put a hook smaller then 10 on, just not needed IMO

And my best days for numbers have never been on opener weekend
